To the traders on here, how do you think the demise of PCWorld would impact
on their business? Not just sales, but repairs? Are people feeling a
downturn in customers splashing money out over the last year???

Nope they are just struggling to copy with competing against a more
professional outfit such as Dell since Dell have really started targetting
consumers with very cheap and comparatively better quality merchandise over
the last couple of years.

PC World are a bunch of fucking cowboys selling cheaply built clone machines
and employing minimum wage geeks and passing them off as IT Technicians
while Dell design and build their own kit to higher standards (though with a
few too many design faults for my liking) and almost certainly have far more
quaified personnel working for them.

ask a stupid question ..

I think the demise of PC world would have a serious impact on their
business.

The demise might even be terminal.

I think it was more of, how would the demise of PC World affect other
businesses namely sales/repairs and are people feeling a general downturn in
business over the last year like PC world reportedly are, but then you knew
that and it was badly phrased I`ll admit.

Back then, much to the disdain of the rest of the fighting industry,
DSGi's store operations publicity killed of the consumer film camera,
audio cassette, TiVo, CRT and video tape recorder business by spreading
advance rumours of their demise.

Now the fighting industry is spreading advance rumours of the demise of
PCWorld ....

Sweet revenge, might I say? ;-)

I think the principle of every household having at least one computer means
that the market is there and exists. Many people just take their pc to
pcworld for repair without thinking, again they go there to buy parts,
without thinking.

I would expect it to affect online traders. Right now people look at
stuff in the store then go out and buy it cheaper online. Without being
able to see the product first I would expect more people to make
decisions on specifications rather than looks. It will hurt Apple a lot.

The answer is to forget selling in shops, instead the manufacturers need
to fund showrooms that don't depend on selling on-site.

Almost every trader with a shop has an online presence
with a functioning sales facility.

Most people who look first instore buy instore.

Most people who look online first buy online at the first
place they see the item they want, regardless of the price.

Experienced buyers mix and match.
