Advice on Router Homepage

Maybe OT, I have a Router, I would like to set it up so when somebody
connects wirelessly It goes to a login page before they can access the web,
anyway of doing this on the cheap, easy to write script maybe, how do I
force the browser on somebodies PC/Laptop to automatically go to this page.

The router currently in question is a Billion Wireless G, maybe that
hardware will need to be replaced., If so what is recomended.

thanks
andy

Check out NoCatAuth at <http://nocat.net/>. It's a captive-portal
application designed to force users to visit a web page before being
allowed 'net access, and includes authentication options.

It'll run on any Linux box, including routers that run embedded versions
of Linux with a bit of fiddling.

That is quite helpful, looking for something Windows based but its not the
end of the world to diversify. Can I ask if you use something along these
lines and you also have wireless IP Cameras, will there be any conflicts ?

Or for a Freeware Windows equivalent.

Sorry, I don't use it. I kept meaning to try it out, but ran out of
spherical tuits. As far as I'm aware, it allows you to specify MAC
addresses that can bypass the authentication, so it should be easy to
get wireless devices that can't authenticate (like IP-connected cameras
and games consoles) working.

I don't know of any equivalent for Windows, sorry.

Ooh, that looks nice. I haven't come across that one before.

I like the comment from Bob from Kansas City "I plan to deploy free Wifi to
the whole of Kansas city" lol I`d like to know how he got on and how much he
cost him, alternatively his contact details at the insane asylum.

Why would it have cost him much? The hardware required to create a
hotspot is so minimal that you can pretty much get what you need to make
an unlimited supply by frequenting Freecycle or diving dumpsters outside
your nearest university.

The LocustWorld project <http://www.locustworld.com/> aims to use
wireless mesh networking to create a viable network on a scale much
larger than a single city, so I see no reason why Bob couldn't succeed
in his project given a little time.

I can't my head round how he would do it, are you saying he could do it by
linking hotspots placed throughout the city, that would require a lot of
co-operation and is probably a lot bigger scale then 1 man working on his
own. If it were so easy and cheap to do why doesn't everyone do it, then we
can all have free wifi everywhere?

I just thought he was a bit deluded with megomaniac idea's, he is "not
computer savvy" after all.
