It would surprise me to learn that *anything* of technical merit was
invented by a Southerner. I do give credit for Southerners having discoverd
that catfish could actually be eaten as a food; yankees from the northern
midwest would never touch the stuff, considering it to be similar to Carp
(the big Lake Michigan cats were sometimes called Chicago brown trout) while
in the South they actually sold this dirty bottom feeder at restaurants.
Same goes for squirrel and possum. But as for Southern technical
achievement, that would surprise me.
