Hi folks,
An implication from Ben Stein's movie "Expelled: No Intelligence
Allowed" for me was that "intelligent design" _need not_ require "God
language" but simply a designer, the designer simply being an older,
higher intelligence -- "space aliens" ;-)
LOL :-) ... but seriously, would not allowing for the _possibility_
that some of our biological structures / processes (especially on the
cellular level) were products of design rather than simply random
processes could actually help us better understand ourselves.
Consider simply "self aware" computer in the future. Would it not
help the self-aware computer better understand itself, its origins,
and even its flaws if it were open to the possibility that it was at
least partially designed by an "older, higher intelligence" (the
computer engineers that built it) rather than simply random processes?
Now how would one discern that a particular biological process was the
product of "intelligent design" rather than simply random processes.
Archeologists, anthropologists and more recently primatologists...

Correct. ID would not prove supernaturalism or the existence of God.

Evolution is NOT random!!!

So why would scientists be afraid of it?

No, it introduces facts not in evidence. You assume what's in your
face and gather data. If your data leads to a new hypothesis, you test
it. Assuming facts not in evidence has led to most dead...

Evolution is not random.
Secondly, the "idea" is of course allowed that "some of our biological
structures / processes [...] were products of design". Unless you can
show that it is the case, however, it stops there. So far, we have no
hint that it is the case. "Irreducible complexity" is false.

Why should we be afraid of it? We go where evidence leads us. And it
doesn't lead us to "ID". Simple as that.

.
Nope - that's not the opinion supported by Mr. Stein, but an Atheist
who had a meltdown on camera.

Except that it wasn't. It was edited to make it look that way.
