A few months ago, the evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins received
an e-mail message from a producer at Rampant Films inviting him to be
interviewed for a documentary called "Crossroads."

The film, with Ben Stein, the actor, economist and freelance
columnist, as its host, is described on Rampant's Web site as an
examination of the intersection of science and religion. Dr. Dawkins
was an obvious choice. An eminent scientist who teaches at Oxford
University in England, he is also an outspoken atheist who has
repeatedly likened religious faith to a mental defect.

Israel Line - Friday, June 10, 2005

Thousands Participate in Gay Pride Parade in Tel Aviv.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Tel Aviv this
afternoon to participate in the city's annual gay pride parade,
HA'ARETZ reported. The parade set out from Rabin Square and was to end
in Yarkon Park, where musical performances were planned.

MKs Yosef Lapid (Shinui), Eitan Cabel (Labor) and Zehava Gal-On
(Yahad), as well as Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, were set to speak at
the event.

The chairman of the national Association of Gay Men, Lesbians,
Bisexuals and Transgender in Israel, Mike Hamel, said today the parade
was organized with the "close cooperation" of the Tel Aviv
municipality. "It's great to see it, and great that it's one of the
few places in the world that has the support of a municipal body, a
government body," he said.

Hamel said the event is called a "pride parade," because it has
to do with "being proud of the way we are and the demand to accept
every person as a person, as he is, and not trying to change him."

THE DALAI LAMA: SAINT OR SCOUNDREL?

By Hal Womack 3-dan

Earlier this second Tuesday morning in the Fall of the Pig, I came
across an announcement of the Dalai Lama's impending
appearances in NYC.

Like most people, I appreciate it when friends let me know well
beforehand of looming events of possible interest. Therefore
I forwarded the following short message to a few pals back East:

Strictly FYI.

Over the years, several people who've talked to me
have been favorably impressed by seeing DL in the flesh.
If I myself happened to be standing in front of
the event with an easy extra $25 in hand, then might
be tempted to cheggitout. Otherwise, from what
I've picked up re his career, the words coming to
mind = "poisonous buffoon".

Best regards, }
