Jesus Christ is the only person in history who has ever said, "before
Abraham was born, I AM" (John 8:58).

The Jewish authorities knew exactly what He was saying, because they
took up stones to stone Him to death for claiming He was the same God
who spoke to Moses from the burning bush (Ex. 3:14).

Abraham lived several hundred years before Moses, and yet Jesus said He
existed before Abraham.

Clearly Jesus was claiming to be the same God of the Old Testament who
spoke to Moses out of the burning bush.

If we would enter eternal life,
we must repent of our sins,
submit to Jesus Christ as Lord
and obey His
Ten Commandment Law.

Second of three sons born to a poor but pious Catholic family in Russian
occupied Poland. His parents, both Franciscan lay tertiaries, worked at home
as weavers. His father, Julius, later ran a religious book store, then
enlisted in Pilsudski's army, fought for Polish independence from Russia,
and was hanged by the Russians as a traitor in 1914. His mother, Marianne
Dabrowska, later became a Benedictine nun. His brother Alphonse became a
priest.

Raymond was known as a mischievous child, sometimes considered wild, and a
trial to his parents. However, in 1906 at Pabianice, at age twelve and
around the time of his first Communion, he received a vision of the Virgin
Mary that changed his life.

Sightings of religious issues in public life this week appeared along the
highways and in the Jewish weekly The Forward (August 4). Columnist Jenna
Weissman Joselit reminded readers that this is the fiftieth anniversary of
the Interstate Highway System, a legacy of the Eisenhower era. As Joselit
tells it, that system, and the vehicles that cruise on it, brought vast
changes in Judaism.

The column illustrated a main theme favored by historians of religion.
Changes that affect understandings of God, attendance at worship, and
other aspects of religious life derive less from concordats...
