And not limited to Berkeley.
I was gased while trying to walk home during the 1970 Bobby Seale/
Black Panthers trial demonstration in New Haven. Abbie Hoffman and
Gerry Rubin were in town and the police decided to gas all the streets
around Yale just to keep the peace. Really lousy too since the
demonstrations had been very well organized and quite peaceful. I was
pregant with my son Justice at the time and had to duck into one of
the Yale buildings where students were supplying everyone with wet
rags for their faces.
