I suspect it was just a bit of haste from whoever,
right at that particular moment, in not recognizing
the original clever turn of phrase

- I wonder too, since in the "corrected"
version the same is said twice, and
thus the "nor" no longer makes sense.

Yes: it is redundancy introduced.
In the correct version the iambic
pentameter is much more powerful.
