A US soldier has been sent home after shooting at a copy of the Koran
during target practice near a village outside Baghdad in an act that
enraged local tribesmen and prompted the US military to issue an
apology.

Iraqi police found the book riddled with bullet holes at a shooting
range near to the village of Radwaniya a week ago. Graffiti had also
been scrawled on the inside cover, a US military spokesman said today.

Colonel Bill Buckner described the incident as "serious and deeply
troubling". An investigation was immediately launched.

"Coalition commanders have since briefed local leaders on the results
of the investigation and expressed their deep regret,” the spokesman
said in a statement. “They have also undertaken disciplinary action
against the soldier who was involved and he has been removed from
Iraq.”

Major-General Jeffrey Hammond, commander of US forces in Baghdad,
apologised for the behaviour of the soldier.

death and brain dead, to ignore the simple facts.

place on the ticket ! -there is only one way to break a perpetual

I just got back from the commencement at Chapman University. If you
don't know who Daniel Pearl was, he was the Wall Street journalist
that was kidnapped in the Middle East. I think they beheaded him on
the internet. He was a captive for a while and then killed for being
American. Okay anyone can straighten out my facts here as that was all
from memory.
Anyway Dr. Judea Pearl is Daniel's father and gave the commencement
address. He spoke of love tolerance, education and building bridges to
other faiths. His address was so moving as he had lost his son to hate
and yet he spoke of love. It was so moving and inspirational that at
the end of it, I jumped to my feet with tears in my eyes and gave him
a standing ovation. The entire crowd of more than 5000 people got to
their feet for him. Here was...
