Sorry to rattle your cultified chains again, Linda, but here's a book
I'm sure you won't want to read. but offered in the interest of the
public dialogue nevertheless.

The Myth of Depression as Disease: Limitations and Alternatives to Drug
Treatment (Contemporary Psychology) (Hardcover)
by Allan M. Leventhal, Christopher R. Martell

Amazon reviews:

Any college-level health collection, especially those strong in mental
health concerns, must have THE MYTH OF DEPRESSION AS DISEASE:

Hi Katie,

Maybe you remember me? My Dad posted here and got taken for a ride.
I'm new to using Google Groups and I'm a little slow, what is a
sockpuppet? LOL!

It took some time but I see the points your making. I just wanted to
say thanks for what your doing. You really nailed it that these
people think they are entiled to special treatment. Gene says that my
Dad wasn't nice so he didn't get treated nicely. I'm proud that my
Dad is smart enough to be cautious when he realizes that he's
surrounded by thugs. Gene has a few things to learn about how things
work I guess.

This new age stuff bugs me but Dad got into it since my Mother died a
few years ago. I thought it might be good for him but I see your point
about how it can be destructive too. He's trying to fix the wrong
problems with the wrong solutions too. I'm going to talk to him about
this drug therapy and the brain chemicals you wrote about. You have
interesting things to say.

You're welcome Eve. I'm glad your Dad has you around to look out for
him, although he seems to have pretty good radar.

It is nuts that these nimrods seem to think there's something wrong
with anyone who notices how flat out nasty and cultified they are.
It's an inevitable consequence of in-breeding I guess. They don't
seem to think anyone else on the earth exists except them.

He insulted people who had done nothing to him; this is not a good way
to introduce yourself to a group.

This group is not about new age stuff.

You really do look like a sock-puppet, and I'm generally not inclined
to say such things. Is there some way you could contrive to convince us
you are a real person? It would help us to know how to relate to your
postings.

Interestin

point of view on a certain topic.

LIMITATIONS AND ALTERNATIVES TO DRUG TREATMENT: it goes where few books
so clearly have gone before, arguing that there's little actual
scientific evidence for treating depression as a biological disorder to
be treated with drugs. Indeed, the authors say, there is very little
known about the role of biology in depression; but marketing by
pharmaceutical companies has perpetuated the myth of chemical imbalance

sv: this could only be written by someone who has never witnessed the effect
that some of these drugs truly have and how they can incredibly change the
quality of one's life. I used to discount it all too, until over the years
I've witnessed their incredible effect on people who truly need them. sheryl

I've heard psychiatrists love to get depression patients, because it's
the only mental illness which can usually be cured with a pill.
