Judge Upholds Religion in Veterans' Care

By RYAN J. FOLEY Associated Press Writer

(AP) - MADISON, Wis.-The Department of Veterans Affairs' increasing use of
religion in treating ailing veterans does not violate the separation of
church and state, a federal judge has ruled.

U.S. District Judge John Shabaz dismissed a lawsuit by the Madison-based
Freedom From Religion Foundation and defended the agency's practices in his
decision Monday, saying religion can help patients heal and is legal when
done on a voluntary basis.

"The human factor has been the key to the persistence of the revolutionary
process," I wrote at the end of my previous work (From Havana: The
Postponement, Jan. 4, 2007), when stating that a breakdown between man the
producer and man the consumer should be prevented. In clear language: if
the link between one and the other should break (and it's already very
tense), serious problems can occur.
