My transcript of "The Travels of Noe into Europe" into modernised English is
now online. I've proofed it and fixed all of the most obvious errors and
omissions. Paragraphs are number x.y where x is the paragraph number and y
is the page number in the original printed version from the start of the
narrative. The numbering system may be extended to x.y:z where z is the line
number in the original text starting from the top of the page. This may be
shortened to x:z1 where z1 is counted from the first line of the paragraph.
Selected margin notes are in { }. Suggested text is in [ ]. * * denotes
questionable old English original text beside my modern English
substitution.

Paragraphs 1.2 and 69.96-97 are reconstructions since the British Library
photo copy is completely illegible in these places. There is a 90%%
probability that more than 50%% of my suggestions are wrong. If anyone has a
legible copy or transcript then please reply to this message.

Transcript (110 KB)
http://www.enthymia.co.uk/myths/bible/TravelsofNoe.zip

Barely legible photo copy of original printed text from the British Library
(5 MB)
http://web.archive.org/web/20060717151544/http://www.annomundi.com/history/travels_of_noah...

All text is copyrighted. You are free to download or redistribute the text
only on a non-profit basis. It you wish to host my transcript then please
contact me. Footnotes and cross-references will be added when I find the
time to track them down.

The dates given in the text are based on Jermoe's/Eusebius' Chronicon
(referred to in the text as "book of Time.") Most if not all references to
Greek and Babylonian chronology are 10 years earlier than those given by
Jerome. This error probably also applies to biblical patriarchs dates. Most
(~98%%) of the "years" referred to in the text are actually seasons, and are
counted as such between the 100th year after the flood up until the start of
reign of Erichthonius which in Jerome's Chronicon is 1415 BC but in this
text is 1425 BC although this is not specified*. Seasons begin at equinoxes
and solstices. Years before the 100th year after the flood are most likely
to be half seasons such that the four seasons are split in half either side
of an equinox or solstice, so that they start and end when they are supposed
to in nature. Alternatively they may be lunar months but this is less
likely. The flood date is the date of the Thera Eruption or 1628 BC. Troy is
founded in 1487 BC (Jerome states 1477 BC). The correct date is 1430.5 BC
taking the above into account.

Noe is a composite figure made up out of Ianus (which is probably a
shortened form of Deukalion) who was a king of Italy, Ogyges who was the
first king of Athens and possibly others. Osyris is another composite figure
was is made up out of Iupiter Iustus Olympicus (Picus) the king of Italy,
Apis king of Argos, and Pharaoh Tutmoses II. The giveaway is that
Osyris-Apis is given the date and length of reign he is give in
Jerome's/Eusebius' Chronicon, but all the dates of the Argive kings prior of
Crotopus (1506 BC as given by Jerome) count winters and summers as different
years. Apis actually reigns directly after the Thera Erruption which is the
event which caused the Ogygian deluge and is in reality Pharoah Awoserre
Apepi II known to Manetho as Apophis who by Herodotus account is also called
Apis, hence Serre-Apis or Sarapis the name by which he was worshiped in
Hellenistic times, whereas Osyris/Picus reigns in about 1500 BC at the time
of the Deukalion flood as given by Jerome.

Hercules Aegyptus Libicus is also a composite figure made up by combining
the histories of Manes king of Phrygia and Maeonia, Pharaoh
Aegyptus/Tutmoses III, and probably the indigenous Italian, French and
Spanish monarchs reigning in about 1500 BC (assuming they actually existed)
referred to by Roman historians. The give away is that Lydus the son of
Athus is made descendent in the fourth generation of Athus the son of
Hercules eventhough we know from Herodotus that he was the grandson of Manes
and decent from Hercules in this way is chronologically imposibe from the
chronology given. The correct Phrygian/Maeonian line of succession is
Maeones, Attis (Athus the great,) Typhon (a tyrant,) Manes, Tipheus (son of
Typhon), Atys, Lydus, where Lydus rules in about 1420 BC, and Maeones in
1576 BC and is the same person as Mannus (or Germannus,) since the Germans
originated from Phrygia. On top of this the text states Hercules was
entombed beside the Pillars of Hercules, but were know that no Egyptian 17th
dynasty Pharaoh was buried outside of the region of Egypt. Isis is made up
out of several Egyptian queens, but mainly refers of Hatshepsut the mother
of Tutmoses III. Cham was created from Kamose. Hammon is probably Amenhotep
I. Triton possibly Sekenenra Tao II or Thot-aa.

The text ignores actual genealogies and makes up its own by making the
majority of the succeeding kings in each country descendants of each other,
even when biological decent is impossible in the time given.

The fact the Brygus the fourth king of Spain seems to be construed as the
ancestor of the Phrygians who Herodotus states were originally called
Brygians and used to live next to the Macedonians may indicate that none of
these kings actually ruled any of the countries they are credited as ruling.
It is more likely given the lack of archaeological evidence in Europe that
these kings originally ruled in the Balkans and Asia-Minor and then migrated
to Europe and took their chronologies and place names with them, porbably
after the destruction of Troy.

*please see http://www.enthymia.co.uk/myths/bible/ for correct
reconstruction of biblical and ancient Greek chronology, Pliny, Natural
History, book 7.XLVIII, and
http://www.tertullian.org/fathers/jerome_chronicle_00_eintro.htm

[and] holy

inspiration. Let us now therefore [affirm] [that] this Berosus

the Chaldean will...unto.. a most renowned, ancient, and grave author, who
flourished not long before the times of Alexander the Great ; and unto whom
(as Ptolemy in his Natural history reporteth the Athenians for his great
wisdom and eloquence, erected in their [university] a most stately [and]
[gorgeous] [stature] to his own shape and similitude, whose tongue they
guided over with most pure and resplendent gold. This Berosus we will in
this Treatise much rely upon, adjoining withal unto his authority other
authors of great worth, learning and antiquity.

Noe (according to [Berosus] in his [enteritis,] one of Hebrew words)
signifieth as much as resting or [sitting] of a mans self, and he was the
son of [Lamech], which signifieth humility. This Noe by the descriptions of
old writers was taken in those days to be a [Giant], in respect of his
extraordinary nature, proportion, and [corpulence] and he was about the age
(as Moses also in [the first] chapter of Genesis [affirmeth]) of five
hundred years, when he begat of his wife [Tytia] (otherwise called Aretia)
[these] his three first sons, [Cham], [which interpreted], [signifies
famous]; otherwise called [Melechisedech], [Shem] the son [he last] [begat]
Berosus affirmeth him to be the [youngest] which signifies subtlety or craft
: and Iaphet, which signifies liberty or freedom ; [and with his three sons
Noe] and his [family] lived in an city called Enos, which was the first city
in the world, and was built by Cain the son of Adam, at the foot of the
mountain Libanus in the land of Syria, and in the particular province of
Phoenicia, not far from the famous city of Ierusalem, situated in the holy
land.

Page 51.

In few years Dardanus began to grow unto great mightiness, riches, and
power, who had also a neighbour prince of mighty puissance, wealth and
fortune, whose name was Teucrus, where upon many writers call the Phrygians
also [Teucrians] and this Teucrus was the son of [Scammander], who had also
himself a very beautiful and fair daughter, which he married shortly after
unto Dardanus, and was called Bateia, of whom Dardanus begot a son called
Erichthonius, who succeeded him and was inheritor [unto] the kingdom of
Phrygia. This Erichthonius in [process] of time arose up into a wonderful
greatness and large possessions, who (as many writers do assure) was
accounted to be one of the richest kings in those days in that part of the
world, who (as it is also said) had at the least three thousand horses of
his own continually feeding in his pastures. And this Erichthonius had also
a son whom he named Tros, whom after his death he left as successor and
inheritor unto him, and of whose name afterwards the Dardanians were called
Trojans. This Tros very much [enlar]ged and beautified the city also of
Dardania [with many riches], which long time after it r[emain]ed [on him to
beget] sons, which were Ilus, Assaracus, [and Ganymedes] [who] he brought up
in the knowledge [of Philosophy and] sciences unto which kind of study ([as
is] [necessary]) he himself also was much addicted and [for] many years
together maintained hostile wars with the king of Crete called Iupiter, the
fourth of that name there : in which wars his son Ganymedes was taken
prisoner even by the hands of Iupiter himself who for that in his ensign and
colours he gave an Eagle (being his arms) it should seem the Poets for that
cause

have [testified] and [un]guided [made] [mistakes] as [govern]

hunting [and] [snatch up] from the [realm] [one] [hearin] by.

[aquila], [ahogrercnd] [for] nu llinedn [Eagle,] [about] [hee is]

now [wish] [bourn] of [adeiove] [the sign of the Zodiac

called Aquarius.] Some [other] [authors] also write, [that one]

Tantalus; king of high Phrygia and of Paphlagonia, a

[master] [.....] [nefarious] prince ..idi

[cetorides are] and [privie] [arranged to] [entrap][this] Ganymedes

and to take him prisoner as he used to [sport] [himself] in [hunting],
[relying] by [this] device to get a mighty ransom of his father Tros for the
redeeming and enfranchising of [this] imprisonment [and his] son and that
this Tantalus son [unto] one Iupiter of the isle of Greece ; for to
[safeguard] him; and to have half the mainland which should be paid for his
redelivery and freedom. And for such like [causes] [believe] the Poets also
do [write] and say this Tantalus is plagued and tormented in hell standing
up to the chin in water, and apples hanging down unto his lips, and yet can
either drink not eat the one or the other ; and it is also more credibly
written, that he died most miserably and in great extremity. His son Pelops
also, banished and exiled his own natural country, fled into to Greece; and
there married a wonderful rich wife and great lady, by which means he got
unto himself and obtained the command of a whole country, which he called
after his own name, Peloponnesus, which is [now] the country of Mauritania,
and subject unto the Empire of the Turk. And of this Pelops issued and
cameth two famous captains, Agamemnon and Menelaus. Tros thus having left
his son on this fashion studied upon revenge, and in the mean times
comforted himself with his two others, Ilus and Assaracus. And this Ilus
called Troy after that, Ilion; who begat as son named Lamedon, the father of
the renowned Priam ; And of Assaracus issued and came Anchises, Aeneas
father. And the before written Tros ruled & commanded there in great power
and puissance for the same of threescore years or thereabouts, as
Archilochus in this book of Times alloadgeth.

It also seems to make the the
Indian king Sudyumna (Saturn/Saturnas) his "nephew" and also gives the
earliest creation story for Rome which was founded by Rhomanessos the son of
Rhoma the daughter of Atlas Italus the son (or descendent, the summery does
not make it clear which is why I want to read the full text) of Gomer
(Comerus Gallus) son of Japheth (Iapetus) son of Noah (Noe Ianus Ogyges
Saga), and sister of Electra the mother of Dardanus, in about 1477 BC if you
go by Jerome's date for Dardanus and date everything else accordingly. On
top of this the missing sequence of Roman kings before Picus is given,
assuming that Picus is short for Iupiter Iustus Olympicus, but I can't make
full sence of it without the full text.
