Jed McKenna -- is he for real?

Author: NoVA101
Date: Feb 10, 2008 23:14

I just listened to "Spiritual Enlightenment: The Damnedest Thing" by
Jed McKenna.

Has anyone else read his stuff? Thoughts??

He mostly knows what he is talking about, and comes to the No-Self
conclusion, but there seem to be some problems, such as:

- It really sounds like he might be a totally made up character some
anonymous author created just to write this book. (not necessarily
bad, just interesting)

- He believes he has "The Way" and all other gurus are full of crap.
Uh oh!

- He is in Iowa down the street from the TM folks. Hmmm.

- He obviously doesn't understand Buddhism.

- etc.

Just wondering if he is for real, or whatever.

  The Secret

Author: RaaN
Date: Feb 9, 2008 18:45

"The Secret" to which I am referring is the book that came out prior
to the more popular book of the same name, and which is authored by
the Kabbalist scholar Michael Berg. His secret gleaned from the Zohar
is not the "Law of Attraction" but rather as follows.
"The only way to achieve true joy and fulfillment is by becoming a
being of sharing."
Taking the message from both of "The Secret" books, they intersect on
the theme of gratitude. I quote from the Rhonda Byrne book:
"Two words which will change your life!
There are two words that, when spoken, have the most unfathomable
power to completely change your life. Two words which, when they pass
your lips, will be the cause of bringing absolute joy and happiness to
you. Two words that will create miracles in your life. Two words that
will wipe out negativity. Two words that will bring you abundance in
all things. Two words which, when uttered and sincerely felt, will
summon all the forces and vibrations in the Universe to move all
things for you.
The only thing standing between you, happiness, and the life of your
dreams, are two words... Thank you"
Between giving or sharing and receiving or attracting, is gratitude. ...

Fighting domestic violence: Tips to Australian women

Author: ibshambat
Date: Feb 9, 2008 02:36

As the Australian women and good-hearted Australian men proceed on a
much-needed fight against violence in relationships, it may be
valuable to share insight that can be gained from experience of
women's movements in other parts of the world.

In few parts of the First World is this fight more necessary or more
rightful than it is in Australia. Australia has been singled out by
international human rights watchdog organizations as a place where...

San Sheng asked Hsueh Feng, "I wonder, what does the golden fish who
has passed through the net use for food?"
Feng said, "When you coume out of the net I'll tell you."
Sheng said , "The teacher of fifteen-hundred people and you don't even
know what to say!"
Feng said, "My affairs as abbot are many and complicated."

My Comments;
Most popluar koans show us a teacher and a student, there is greater
understanding and a lessor understanding. This one is different in
that both of these gentlemen are Zen adepts. There is literally no
teacher and no student here, just two Chan masters shining bright.

My Comments by line;

- San Sheng asked Hsueh Feng, "I wonder, what does the golden fish who
has passed through the net use for food?"

The hook is baited, take the bait and lose your life, leave the bait
and starve to death. You either get it or you don't, there's no room
for error here.

- Feng said, "When you coume out of the net I'll tell you."

Unfazed a golden fish easily breaks the line and swallows the bait.

It's all fluff, dear. Don't bother to go into
a fit on it. Better just relax and be serene.
