Reflections on the Fraudulent will & testament of Abdu'l-Baha
The will and testament is a fraudulent document perpetrated by a
family seeking to seize and control a formative religion for its own
benefit. Largely, they succeeded, though they initially lost thousands
of early Bahais over the coming decades, while a few insightful and
valient Bahais, such as Ruth White, Julie Chanler, and Mirza Ahmad
Sohrab protested and explained their concerns and objections in a
number of books, all the more worth reading in the light of subsequent
decades of slander, deceit, lies, and shunning of independently minded
scholars, writers, and people of every background:
"Abdul Baha had never in speech or writing given the slightest indication
that there would be a successor to himself. On the contrary, a number of
addresses delivered by him on various occastions had made the
opposite impression" (61). "There is apparent contradiction between this
section of the Will and his lifelong teachings..." (61). --Mirza Ahmad Sohrab,
The Will and Testament of Abdul Baha, An Analysis. New York: Universal
Publishing, 1944. Mirza Ahmad Sohrab's Broken Silence: The Story of
Today's Struggle for Religious Freedom. New York: Universal Publishing, 1942.

Dr. C. (Charles) Ainsworth Mitchell - Certified Copy from the Library of Congress
Report on the Writing Shown on the Photographs of the Alleged Will of Abdu'l-Baha. 1930.

"That is to say, the writing does not agree with the hypothesis that it was all written by one
person."
"A minute comparison of the authenticated writing with the writing on every page of the
alleged will . . . has failed to detect in any part of the will the characteristics of the writing
of Abdu'l-Baha, as shown in the authenticated specimens." -Dr. C. Ainsworth Mitchell

The attempts to discredit Dr. Mitchell and Ruth White have relied on, for over 75 years, slander and
ad hominem and are no more convincing now than they have ever been. Note the attempt to shift from
his conclusion and call for an examination of the original to the man himself.
I ask the reader to reflect on the fact that Dr. Mitchell remains one of the most respected forensic
researchers of the 20th century and is still quoted and cited by academics and legal experts. His

205-206 BAHAI LEADS OUT OF THE LABYRINTH
The one hundredth anniversary of the foundation of the Bahai Religion will take place on May 23rd,
1944. Yet here also the Power within it has been more or less entombed due to the fact that since
the passing of Abdul Baha from this world the organized group of Bahais (The National Spiritual
Assembly of Bahais) under the dictatorship of Shoghi Effendi, have brought Fascism or
totalitarianism into it.
Unbelievable as it may seem, they tried to copy-right the Bahai Religion, and they instituted two
law suits during 1941* against Mirza Ahmad Sohrab, and Mrs. Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler, to prohibit.
them, or anyone else, from calling themselves "Bahais", or from spreading the religion unless they
did so through their organization. and according to their dictates.
Naturally the National Spiritual Assembly of Bahais lost both suits, and they were severely
reprimanded by the judge. He made it clear to them that in this day of religious freedom, no one can
copyright a religion or claim the exclusive rights to it.

A sincere man in Shoghi's position should gladly have accepted my challenge for an investigation.
Any man confident of the justice of his case would, in fact, have courted and insisted upon an
impartial and judicial examination of the alleged will and of all the facts bearing on his claim to
Guardianship. Shoghi Effendi however, it can be seen, was congratulating himself that there was no
likelihood of the Palestine authorities considering the question. He shunned a test of the alleged
will and of his claims. And I have every reason to believe that his advice to his followers not to
hurt my feelings at that time was with a view to prevent me from pursuing the matter further (1).

White, Ruth. Abdul Baha's Questioned Will and Testament. Beverly Hills: White, 1946:
"The scientific indications are that the will of Abdu'l-Baha is not genuine. Also, from the
spiritual viewpoint, there are overwhelming indications that it is not genuine, as it contradicts
the teachings of both Baha'u'llah and of Abdu'l-Baha. But whether the alleged will of Abdu'l-Baha is
authentic or spurious, the results of the administration of Shoghi Effendi and the National
Spiritual Assembly of Baha'is stand as an historical indictment against them. They no more represent
the Bahai Religion than the bigots of the dark ages of Christianity" (11-12).
"One of these actions is the trade marking of the name "Baha'i" in 1928. This is the same as if one
sect within Christianity had tried to trade mark the name "Christian." In their application for the
trade...

The plans of many Baha'is for the Faith are not the same as God's
Plan, and may believe that THEY will solve the problems and establish
the Cause in the world. It is important that they consider the
following quotations from Baha'u'llah and the Bab and change their
thinking accordingly.Today the test of submission to the Will of God
has appeared with greater strength because we have been given the
opportunity for greater spiritual knowledge and insight into the
meaning of such tests through the Kitab-i-Iqan and other Books of
Baha'u'llah, and repeatedly warned that we must wholly submit to the
Will of God. The following statements indicate that God can, in fact,
change those aspects of His Cause that we consider irrevocable. In the
Most Great Infallibility there is no change of plans but from the
viewpoint of the creatures it appears that God changes His plans,
whereas past and future events and possibilities are all known to
God.
For example, the end of the Guardianship seems to Baha'is to be a
change of God's plan because we have assumed it would never end, yet
if it had not ended, at least temporarily until the next
Manifestation, there would be no test of believers, all Baha'is would
accept the Manifestation, and the statement of Baha'u'llah on page 9 ...

That is a very simple question to answer. Hands of the Bahá'í Faith
are servants of the living Guardian of the Bahá'í Faith, appointed by
a living Guardian. Hands of the Cause are part of the Guardianship
pillar of the "twin pillars" of the Administration of the New World
Order, as defined by Shoghi Effendi, in his Spiritual Testament, The
Dispensation of Bahá'u'lláh.
Hands of the Cause of God well understand and are are constantly aware
who it is who has authority over them. In other words, they
understand and obey exactly what Shoghi Effendi meant when he wrote
these words concerning the twin Institutions, the Guardianship and the
Universal House of Justice:
'Neither will seek to curtail the specific and undoubted authority
with which both have been divinely invested."

We have observed many errors in teachings and actions by Muslim
Clerics and groups who trust themselves with interpretation of Islamic
Writings. Why should we believe that independent interpretation of
Bahá'í Writings by individual Bahá'ís and groups of Bahá'ís would
produce any better result?
if an Orthodox Bahá'í makes an error in teaching, she/he knows that a
living Guardian is able to monitor the mistake and to correct it. For
example, the third Guardian recently sent the American
secretary a letter in which he noted that from time to time someone
spoke of the Guardian as the Center of the Covenant, and he explained
that 'Abdu'l-Baha' is the Center of the Covenant, a permanent station,
which He carried with Him into the next world, while the living
Guardian on Earth is the Center of the Cause of God.
We all make errors occasionally, and yet Shoghi Effendi Bahá'ís to
offer their personal explanations of our writings, provided that they
made it very clear that they were only expressing their own personal
opinion.
