"Party with a death wish"
James Ostrowski (Jan. 9 11:46pm)
The GOP is on a suicide mission.
They appear to be about to nominate one of four or five dreadful candidates
for President. If they do so, they will suffer a catastrophic loss in
November including in Congress.
McCain, Rudy, Romney and Huckster are dreadful candidates each in their own
special ways. Fred Thompson is the least bad of the bunch. (Lazy men don't
start wars.) Naturally, he lags behind.
In spite of Ron Paul's single digit performance in NH (better in paper
ballot counties), my view has not changed in the slightest. Ron Paul is the
only candidate who can save us from hearing that shrill voice take the oath
of office on January 20th. He does well among the young, independents,
liberals and Democrats, you know, the type of people whose votes a
Republican needs in November.

On the trail of the CIA
Good news? Let's hope.

Ontario,CA,USA
On the first business day of the new year, Judge
Michael B. Mukasey, the new US attorney general,
ordered a full-blown criminal investigation into the
destruction of videotapes used to record the CIA's
methods of interrogating prisoners.
In a statement posted on the FBI Web site, Mukasey
said, "Following a preliminary inquiry into the destruction
by CIA personnel of videotapes of detainee interrogations,
the Department's National Security Division has
recommended, and I have concluded, that there is
a basis for initiating a criminal investigation of this
matter, and I have taken steps to begin that investigation
as outlined below."
Now, please remember that the good judge, during ...

This is why Barack Obama is the man to vote for, as a young black man
who grew up in the violent urban ghetto, he alone has a unique
perspective regarding the violence perpetrated with illegal guns.
Here are five points that Mr. Obama addresses at the link above and my
endorsement of those positions.
1. Keeping all guns out of inner cities
This is a no-brainer. Everyone who lives in such areas knows that gun
violence is a way of life. Every city that has a population exceeding
100,000 loses nearly 1%% of that population every year to illegal
gunfire. IMO, this does not go far enough, an across the board ban is
necessary to eliminate the skyrocketing gun violence crime rate that
has been plaguing the United States.
2. Ban all forms of semi-automatic weapons

NEWS RELEASE
CA APPEALS COURT RULES UNANIMOUSLY IN FAVOR OF SAF LAWSUIT
In a unanimous decision today, the California Court of Appeals ruled
that the City of San Francisco’s handgun ban is illegal under state law,
upholding a lawsuit filed by the Second Amendment Foundation and several
other groups.
“This is a great day for gun owners and civil rights in California,”
said SAF Founder Alan M. Gottlieb. “This is the second time we
successfully fought a gun ban in San Francisco, and what this
demonstrates is that the city’s leadership is as horribly out of touch
with the law as it seems to be out of touch with reality.”
SAF was joined in the lawsuit by the National Rifle Association, Law
Enforcement Alliance of America, California Association of Firearms
Retailers and several private citizens.
In its ruling, the court held that Proposition H, approved by voters in
November 2005, is invalid as preempted by state law. Gottlieb said this
was essentially the same case that SAF battled on its own 23 years ago
when the city, under then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein, adopted a gun ban.

CCRKBA BLASTS VA GOV. KAINE FOR USING VIRGINIA TECH CRIME TO ATTACK GUN
SHOWS
BELLEVUE, WA – Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has fallen back on one of the
oldest, and most shoddy, tactics in the gun grabber playbook by using
the Virginia Tech tragedy to launch an attack on gun shows, when the
crime had nothing to do with gun shows, the Citizens Committee for the
Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
“Neither of the guns used by Virginia Tech killer Seung-Hui Cho was
purchased at a gun show,” noted CCRKBA Legislative Liaison Joe Waldron.
“Attacking some mythical ‘gun show loophole’ will do nothing to prevent
criminals from getting their hands on guns illegally, because it has
been shown statistically that criminals rarely get firearms at such shows.”

The remote Porters Corners home, located at 435 Ormsbee
Road, which is owned by the Brooklyn-based Monsignor
George Zatarga, is the location where the Catholic
clergyman allegedly molested an 18-year-old man after
inviting him to the area for a retreat in 2007.
Saratoga Springs - A 65-year-old priest who acknowledged
his "inappropriate behavior" after allegations of sexual
abuse were reported to the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Brooklyn could be under investigation by State Police in
Wilton for similar behavior that may have occurred at his
summer camp in the town of Greenfield last year.

Yakima, WA - The Catholic Diocese of Yakima has paid
$200,000 to settle lawsuits brought by four women who
alleged that they were sexually abused when they were
children in the 1960s by a now-deceased Toppenish priest.
As part of the settlement, Bishop Carlos Sevilla, who was
not in office at the time, apologized to the women in
personal letters, according to a news release from the
diocese. The diocese announced the settlement Tuesday.

Father Gary Underwood update
By Stephanie Innes
The Arizona Saily Star
Tuesday, January 8, 2008
Tucson, AZ - Looks like the Rev. Gary E. Underwood may be
heading to trial on charges that he molested three teenage
boys during the 1980s.
Underwood, 53, is facing charges of child molestation and
sexual conduct with a minor in connection with reports that
he abused three boys while working as a priest at St.
Odilia's Catholic Church on Tucson's Northwest Side.
Underwood is accused of molesting the three teenage boys --
all of them under the age of 15 -- during the early 1980s.
He had asked that the criminal case be dismissed because of
the long delay in charging him. The judge didn't buy it.
Pima County Superior Court Judge Richard Nichols denied
Underwood's motion to dismiss the case on the grounds that
it took prosecutors more than two decades to charge him.
