Stanley Ann Dunham Obana Soetoro (November 29, 1942 - November 7,
1995), known as Ann Dunham and Stanley Ann Dunham, was an American
anthropologist, left-wing social activist, and the mother of Senator
Barack Obama. She was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to Stanley and
Madelyn Dunham. Her father (who gave his only child his name) was a
furniture salesman in downtown Seattle, Washington, and her mother
worked for a bank. After a year living in Seattle , her family moved
to Mercer Island , Washington , in 1956 so that 13-year old Ann
could attend the Mercer Island High School that had just opened. At
the school she was on the debate team and graduated in 1960.

  Credit Card Overhauls Seem Likely

Credit Card Overhauls Seem Likely
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/05/business/05cards.html

Consumer advocates say regulation of the credit card industry has long
been without teeth. But as card holders struggle under the weight of big
balances, high interest rates and fees, their pleas to lawmakers for
help may well mean that the industry will face some significant
regulation by early next year.

Regulators are saying, “We missed the mortgage thing by not acting
quickly enough,” said Edmund Mierzwinski, federal consumer program
director for the Public Interest Research Group.

The regulators are saying, “People are losing their homes because the
banks were unfair. Now we’ve got the credit card industry. And people
will end up in debt for the rest of their lives, and maybe we ought to
do something.”

Travis B. Plunkett, legislative director of the Consumer Federation of
America in Washington, agreed that the mood had changed and said he was
“virtually sure” there would be some regulation soon. “The question,” he
said, “is how meaningful it will be.”

As Gas Prices Soar, Elderly Face Cuts in Aid

As Gas Prices Soar, Elderly Face Cuts in Aid
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/05/us/05elderly.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Early last month, Jeanne Fair, 62, got her first
hot meals delivered to her home in this lake town in the sparsely
populated southwestern part of the state. Then after two deliveries the
meals stopped because gas prices had made the delivery too expensive.

“They called and said I was outside of the delivery area,” said Mrs.
Fair, who is homebound and has not been able to use her left arm since a
stroke in 1997.

Faced with soaring gasoline prices, agencies around the country that
provide services to the elderly say they are having to cut back on
programs like Meals on Wheels, transportation assistance and home care,
especially in rural areas that depend on volunteers who provide their
own gas. In a recent survey by the National Association of Area Agencies
on Aging, more than half said they had already cut back on programs
because of gas costs, and 90 percent said they expected to make cuts in
the 2009 fiscal year.

  INDEPENDENCE Lost ?

Author: Nixon.D

You just might, on this INDEPENDENCE DAY 2008, take the time to read this
thought-provoking little screed by a knowledgeable historian, statesman,
columnist, political activist, presidential-candidate.

It is unfortunate that we don't have many more men with his cogent
commentaries and insights into our national situation.

Independence Lost
by Patrick J. Buchanan

Not until a year after Lexington did the Continental Congress
muster the resolve to declare the 13 colonies free and independent
states, no longer subject to Parliament or Crown.

Not for five years after July 4, 1776, did George Washington's army
truly attain America's independence at Yorktown.

Even then, Washington and his aide Alexander Hamilton knew that the
13 states, while politically independent, were dependent upon
Europe for the necessities of their national life. Without French
ships and guns, French muskets and troops, the Americans could not
have forced Gen. Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown.

  Dreadful Indeed . . .

I really hate to propagate crude humor on INDEPENDENCE day. But, I cannot
resist !!
=============================================

Two middle-aged bats (old-biddie bats) were hanging from the overhead having
a little chat about growing old.

Bat#1--- "Do you know what I really dread about growing old?"

Bat #2--- "No, what's that?"

Bat #1--- "Incontinence".

Yes. That is one of the commonly used stages of the global Muslim
insurgency, i.e., step by step get the victim-nation to accept a different
set of Muslim rules/statutes; different from those all the "infidels" must
follow. They want to set their own rules for mankind and ignore all others
............

There's nothing surprising in this. We'd best get used to it if our
electorate is stupid enough to put OsamoHusseinOmamo in our White House.
You can easily envision the sort of person he would appoint to SCOTUS !

I hope these Buxom, Boasting, Black-entranced, Bloodthirsty, Brazen,
Bloviating, Biddies within this newsgroup like the idea of wearing Black
table-cloths and want to give up driving around in their Benz's and Buicks.
I doubt they will even be allowed to ride Bicycles to the Bazar.

'You know what I'm dreading as I grow old?' asked one.

'Incontinence!'
