(Sounds more like "Walking in a Winter Wonder Land" rather than
"Frosty")

I don't know if I've heard his rendition (I seldom pay attention to
who's singing) but I suspect you only heard the last verse. In the
original there are a couple of verses you may be confusing:
"we'll pretend that he is Parson Brown,
he'll say are you married, we'll say 'no mam.
but you can do the job when you're in town."
Another verse (the last I think) is:
"we'll pretend that he's a circus clown
we'll have lots of fun with Mr. Snowman
until the other kiddies knock him down."

Everyone is wrong about this. The song is "Winter Wonderland",
and both sentences are part of the actual lyrics. The first time it's
"Parson Brown", and "circus clown" the second time.
Has absolutely nothing to do with religion; you guys just don't
know the song.

FIRST THINGS is a magazine I recently subscribed to. I got my first
issue yesterday - October 2008.
It's a religious magazine. It describes itself as -->
"FIRST THINGS is published by Religion and Public Life, an
interreligious nonpartisan education and research institute whose
purpose is to advance a religiously informed public philosophy for the
ordering of society."
One of the articles is "Is Mormonism Christian". There are two parts to
it - the first part written by Bruce D Porter a member of the First
Quorum of the Seventy. The second part is by an evangelical Gerald R
McDermott.
Towards the end of Elder Porter's part he wrote -->
"Are Mormons Christian? By self-definition and self-identity,
unquestionably so. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
affirms that it is a Christian-faith denomination, body of believers
who worship Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior ...".
I was surprised by the comment "worship Jesus Christ".
I thought that the LDS only worship Heavenly Father.

[Moderator's Note: It should be noted that this ... err, pursuit of
perfection has been aided and abetted in recent months
by some rather stubborn glitches (both technical
and medical).]
Not a question to the moderators, but to the posters here.
Craig Olson once said of SRM, "the more moribundity the better."

(link to graph of posting numbers over the years)
By Craig's definition, it's looking as if this usenet group is
approaching perfection.

Has anyone tried to see the Joseph Smith manual? I keep getting an error
message. Yesterday and today.

We realize that a lot of posters on soc.religion.mormon don't want
to use their real e-mail addresses when posting to the group. On the
other hand, the moderators do like to be able to let people know why
their messages have not been accepted for posting.
If your message has an invalid address, we will not be able to send
you that information. If you would like have your articles returned
to you so we can explain the reasons your post was not accepted (or
even just to know that the message will not be accepted) send us
a message to srm-board@ srm.npl.invalid.com (remove the ".invalid"
before sending) with both the fake address you use and your real
address.
The real address you provide will only be used for returning messages
to you.
Regards,
SRM Moderators

(Quibbles, clarifications, and words of praise about this article can

Questions sometimes arise, on soc.religion.mormon as elsewhere, about
the relationship of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
to other Christian denominations. Below is an attempt to outline
some of the major similarities between the two groups, and some of
the significant differences.
(It is perhaps useful to note here that the question of _whether_
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is actually a
Christian church is a topic which is not permitted on the newsgroup.
That's because it simply comes down to circular arguments about
definitions of the word "Christian," and tends to lead to unpleasant
argumentation.)

[Note: This is really the alt.religion.mormon Manners FAQ,
Revision 1.1, and is not an official FAQ of this
newsgroup. However, new posters to this group or
to Usenet in general might find some of the concepts
of value.]
These guidelines are provided to help you understand the type of
etiquette that is appreciated on alt.religion.mormon (or, a.r.m).
Please take the time to read these rules, particularly if you are
thinking "Etiquette?, I don't need no steenking etiquette!" right
now. The closer you can follow the general concepts presented in
the FAQ, the closer attention people will pay to your post. -ed.
Rule 1: Watch your Words
Writing a post provides a sense of anonymity. You may
be tempted to write things in anger, in defense, or with
the intention to hurt. Four hints on how to avoid it:
a) What if the person were standing in the room with you,
would you still say it to them? If not, then do not
post it.
