  Question UK

This is a hypothetically question that came up the other evening when a
few of us were sitting enjoying a pint or three after L of I. We were
discussing quarterly communications from UGLE and the number of lodges
that have handed in their warrants. In these cases what happens to the
monies and furniture of the lodge? Does it go to UGLE to Provincial
Grand Lodge or can the members elect what happens to it? Our own lodge
rooms stand on freehold land that was bought approx 120 years ago for
the princely sum of £1.50 ( 30 shillings in those days) per foot
frontage and the site is now worth about £300,000 pounds, should in the
future anything happen that our lodge folded what would happen to the
money raised from the sale of the site? I stress this is a hypothetical
question our lodge...

What gives? news.dallas.sbcglobal.net informs me
that they have dropped alt.binaries.freemasonry.
Is this a part of the crackdown on porn? If so,
why pick on the masons?

  Subordinate or Constituent?

Brother Ben Franklin made a series of statements that I am sure is
familiar to most who read this newsgroup:
☼ “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little
temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Brother Franklin said this long before anyone had any thought of
an American revolution on February 17th, 1755. And, with some font
changes the same statement was printed by Franklin in 1759 on the
title page of “An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government
of Pennsylvania,” by Richard Jackson, again more than a decade before
any thought of making a change.
Personally, I have had some time on my hands this week (passing
some stones...yuch) and have been going through my library.
As early as 1738 in Poor Richards Almanack Franklin printed, “Sell
not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power,” a
common adage taken from Ernesto Stoctman’s “Reim-Dispositiones,” a
German Lesson-book. I happen to be fortunate in owing a copy printed
in Stolberg, 1710. They are a collection of morals for school age
children set into German rhymes. Many, if you pick them out, are a
justification for servants to correct an immorally minded Master
regardless of risk. I also have a collection of German schoolbooks ...

  Another Old Game

Hello Brothers-
Here is another old Masonic Trivia game that I put together a few
years ago. I just took the test and got ten out of twelve questions
right...and I wrote the thing. Ah, nothing like aging. I guess we all
need a little review from time to time.

  Historic Research

My lodge is celebrating its 150th this year (Stanfield #217 AF&AM Grand
Lodge of Texas). I compiled a decent history of the lodge in 1995 that
goes from 1858 - 1919. I would like to expound on that history but I
really am a poor historic researcher. Any advice anyone could provide
would be great.
