A while back I bought a search application called GenSpider, but put
it aside. Now, I have time to use it but find that it doesn't explain
itself so I can't figure out the details. Worse yet, the domain
[ genspider.com] expired at the beginning of this month; now the URL
goes to a pest control/cum dating and scamming site now.
The Wayback Machine [ web.archive.com] only has about four months of
side captures from mid-2007.
Does anybody know of an archive of GenSpider.exe and/or a
discussion/set of instructions for using it? I'd be much obliged but
unable to offer a reward for information leading to its capture.
Or is there anything else, preferably freeware but at least
inexpensive, that can crawl genealogical sites looking for keywords?

After going round and round with FTM with faxes, emails and the
message board, I have given up on FTM 16. First it installs a printer
called Amyuni Document Converter. When I try to view Descendent
Outline I get the message " Family Tree Maker is unable to use the
default printer" I called headquarters and spoke with technician. He
had me uninstall and install twice. He sent me an email to to a clean
boot. I found no record of conflicts. With last install, the printer
didn't install. I tried again to view Descendant outline. It did
appear but when I tried to convert to PDF, I got the "Family tree
executable has stopped" again the original message. I was on the phone
an hour, 40 minutes on hold. I am ready to give up on FTM and go to a
Genealogy program that works with Vista.
Then I uninstall everything and reinstall and don't get any printer. I
try to view the Descendent Outline and it shows up but when I try to
export to PDF, I get the message Family tree executable has stopped
working. I can no longer install a printer so I downloaded and
installed the suggested pdf printer 995. However, I still get the
executable error when I try to export the view to Acrobat. I am giving
up on FTM and going to another program. This is frustrating,
irritating and downright stressful. I want to get on with using my ...

Some months ago I investigated products and decided Reunion
was a decent MacOS genealogy program.
I have since learned it is incapable of doing Elizabeth Shown
Mills reference styles. Its limited source definitions are
simply inadequate, and its custom sources require ","s between
fields, so that renders it impossible to do professional
Mills style sources references.
Is there a Mac OS genealogy product that is as enlightened
as TMG (The Master Genealogist which only works on Windoze
so I refuse to run or emulate it) for using Mills style
references?
Thanks, John

Hi,
I maintain a small gedcom of my family using PHPGEDView. Recently a
person contacted me wanting to merge his tree with mine.
My question is, how do I ensure that once we define a relationship
between atleast one of his individuals with my tree's individual, how
do I ensure that he is not able to edit any individuals in my part of
the tree?

It's quite normal to feel that buying presents for your grandparents
is hard. They are elderly and therefore a lot of thought needs to go
into finding a gift that they would appreciate. However, if you do a
little searching, you'll be surprised at the range of suitable
products available for them. I am not talking about a pair of slippers
or a jumper, but unique gifts that you would probably not find in the
high street. In the article, I am going to highlight some of the
unique and often useful gifts for grandparents.
The Lav Nav (toilet night light)- you probably would not associate
gadgets with the elderly, but the Lav Nav is a great little gadget
that only appeals to the young, but also to the old due to it's useful
and functional nature. For many years, men and women have been falling
out over the position of the toilet seat. Women want it down, men want
it up. Most woman have, at one time or another, taken a sleepy trip to
the bathroom only to sit on a toilet when the seat has been left up
which apparently is not very nice. Waking in the night to go to the
toilet is a common scenario, especially with the elderly. The Lav Nav
could be the answer. This small, contoured, unit attaches easily to
the toilet seat with the enclosed adhesive strip. Its built-in sensor
is triggered by movement. Its ingenious sensors assess the position of ...
