Has the G8 become a talk shop out fit ?

Author: baldeagle
Date: Jul 12, 2008 23:56

In the past, when the most powerful economies got together annually,
what they decide as a group had far reaching consequences.
Unfortunately, it is no longer so.

At the last G8 meeting in Japan, the group decided to impose sanction
on Zimbabwe (before China and India were invited as a guest to the
meeting.)

So, the USA and Britain asked the United Nation Security council to
impose heavy sanction to punish Mugabe for the way he got re-elected,
(strictly an internal affair matter.).

Lo and behold….Russia and China vetoed the motion...Much to the
disgust of the USA and UK.

It clearly demonstrated that the G8 has NO power to act….. to impose
its will on another sovereign nation….no matter how small or weak (is
Zimbabwe.)

Russia has now called into question, “the worthiness of Russia as a
G-8 partner”. it is meaningless, a total waste of time to be a member
of G8.

Podcast interview re Limits To Growth w/ Dennis Meadows

Author: georgekenney
Date: Jul 12, 2008 14:39

Posted Friday at Electric Politics, an interview with Dr. Dennis
Meadows, co-author of the classic work Limits To Growth, now in its
third edition (2004, Chelsea Green). One can't argue much with his
heuristic conclusion that unrestricted, exponential growth results in
sudden collapse: If we won't make the hard choices to control growth
(e.g., population, industrialization), nature will. How much time
we've got to figure this out and do something about it is the
question...

Please note that this is the first of a two part series on the
environment and issues of sustainability. Next week Electric Politics
talks with Terry Tamminen, formerly the Secretary of California's
Environmental Protection Agency and a top adviser to Gov.
Schwarzenegger. Which moves from theory to practice, on a more
optimistic note.

As always, please feel free to redistribute the link to this show.

Thanks for listening!

Israel Inching Closer to ANNIHALATING Iran's Nuclear Capabilities ~ Israeli Warplanes Practice in Iraq

Israeli warplanes practice in Iraq

The Jerusalem Post
July 11, 2008

Israel Air Force (IAF) war planes are practicing in Iraqi airspace and
land on US airbases in the country as a preparation for a potential
strike on Iran, sources in the Iraqi Defense Ministry told a local
news network on Friday.

The report, which was also carried by Iranian news outlets, claimed
that recently massive IAF overnight presence was detected in several
American held airbases.

According to the sources, former military officers in the Anbar
province said IAF jets arrive during the night from Jordanian
airspace, enter Iraq’s airspace and land on a runway near the city of
Hadita. The sources estimated the jets were practicing for a raid on
Iran’s nuclear sites.

The sources also said the American bases in Iraq might serve as a
platform for the IAF from which to attack Iran. If Israeli warplanes
will take off from Iraq, they can reach Bushehr in five minutes - a
“record time,” the sources said.
