Mumbai hilsa replaces Bangladesh variety

KOLKATA: This silver-scaled fish has been synonymous with Bengali
cuisine for ages, so much so that it has come to be identified with
Bengali culture as a whole. Hilsa is a part of various rituals and
festivities in this part of the country.

Traditionally, hilsa fished from the Padma river of Bangladesh has
been a favourite, which often led retailers to pass off hilsa caught
from rivers in West Bengal as the Bangladeshi variety.

Of late, however, hilsa fish from Bharuch (Gujarat) and Mumbai has
nearly replaced the dwindling Bangladeshi variety over the last three
years. “These fishes are bigger and tastes better than the ones
available in Bangladesh or Kolaghat in West Bengal,” said Syed Maqsood
Anwar, secretary of the Fish Importers’ Association here.

He said five lakh kg of hilsa from Bharuch and Mumbai arrive here
every season.

Author: malcom.khan

how come no Muslim has ever been elected in
Australia , law of averages would indicate that as a nation of
immigrants in a world that is 25%% Muslim we should have had a few
Muslims in a secular democracy

Even Iran has a Jews and Christians in their parliament

as well as today ,

Iran remains a model more tolerant than Australian politics with
regard to minorities representation in politics

Currently, the Majlis' 290 members, five of whom represent non-Muslim
religious minorities, are popularly elected for four-year terms

India in dire need of US $ 500 Billion to sustain Foreign investment -IMF

Author: Muhammad Javed Iqbal
Date: Jul 6, 2008 22:17

So, the 500 billion dollar question: Can India achieve the 11th Five
Year Plan's target for infrastructure investment without foreign
capital? We argue that it cannot.

In 2006/07, net capital inflows amounted to about 5 percent of GDP but
the residual gap between investment and domestic savings was only
around 1 percent of GDP. This led to the view amongst analysts and
some policy makers that capital flows are "excessive" and should be
curbed. There is no denying that a major policy challenge is to
maintain macroeconomic stability in the face of capital inflows that
may not match outflows in timing. As investment is typically
prefunded, capital will flow in before it goes out as imports and
profits. And this is true for FDI, portfolio inflows, and fixed-income
lending. Such asynchronized timing makes life very difficult for
macroeconomic policy makers.

Saudi Arabia Gets Tough With Illegal Pakistanis

Saudi ban on umra visa
By Rahimullah Yusufzai
Email: bbc@pes.comsats.net.pk

As expected, the government of Saudi Arabia has refused to lift the
ban on Pakistanis below the age of 40 years from performing umra. It
was futile on the part of federal religious affairs minister Mohammad
Ejazul Haq to visit Riyadh to try and make the Saudis change their
mind on the issue. The Saudis formulate their policies after much
thinking and in line with their national interest and decisions once
taken are rarely changed.

Tens of thousands uprooted by floods in Assam

Author: Muhammad Javed Iqbal
Date: Jul 6, 2008 21:50

India has gradually become a wasteland due to negligence, lethargy
and incompetence on the part of Indian governmenet. In a nation whose
capital is the 22nd dirtiest city of the world and which enjoys the
previlige of having
its largest city, Mumbai being declared 7th most dirty city in the
world, has examples of government inaction
everywhere in the country. The new flood in Assam, where 3 separation
movments are in progress, would further
agravate terms between centre and the revolutionists of Assam:

GUWAHATI, July 6: Flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have
washed away thousands of homes and displaced more than 50,000 people
in India’s northeastern state of Assam, officials said on Sunday.

A government spokesman said the state’s eastern district of Lakhimpur
was the worst hit, with an estimated 50 villages inundated by flooding
that began on Saturday.

“The situation is critical with many parts of the district under waist-
deep water,” Lakhimpur police chief said.

Sri Lanka Beats India to Lift Asia Cup

Author: Muhammad Javed Iqbal
Date: Jul 6, 2008 21:40

India was handed to straight defeats in Asia Cup. First by
Pakistan and then by Sri Lanka. "Chuk de India"
fever seems to have died down, like all the empty slogans of lifting
the wasteland that is known as India.

KARACHI, July 6: Mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis produced one of the
most amazing bowling performances in the history of One-Day
Internationals as Sri Lanka defeated India by 100 runs to retain the
Asia Cup cricket title at the National Stadium here on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Mendis returned the remarkable figures of six wickets
for 13 runs in eight overs as India were dismissed for 173 in 39.3
overs after Sri Lanka had set them a target of 274 in the day-night
final.

Sri Lanka, who equalled India’s record of four Asia Cup titles after
winning their first final outside home, had scored 273 in 49.5 overs
after being asked to bat first by Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Opener Sanath Jayasuriya was the backbone of their innings with 125
while Tillekeratne Dilshan made 56.

India Balkanizing: Naxalite insurrection widening Cracks and deep cavities

Author: Muhammad Javed Iqbal
Date: Jul 6, 2008 21:32

'India is no more a country than the Equator'.Winston Churchill

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real
tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." Plato

Balkanizing Cracks in "India": Naxalite insurrection shows severe
cavities in India. Why is the press silent about the rebellion in 100
districts of India?-this constitutes about 40%% of the country. The
swathe of land from Nepal all the way down to Andhara Pradesh is in
rebel control. The seven sisters in the Norheast are almost totally
out of control of the center which does not seriously challenge the
writ of the local leaders.

The central government is weak, corrupt, ineffective and impotent.
Kashmir is on fire, as is Assaam and Bihar. 250 million Dalits do not
feel "Indian". The 150 million Muslims have been so mistreated that
they are in abject generational penury. It will take more than 3
centuries to pull the poverty stricken out of destitute living. The
media focuses on "Incredible India", a figment of the imagination of
the West.

Is India is a failed state? The maps show the more than 89
insurgencies that are raging in India

Bangladesh's Jamaat-e-Islami Swindles Farmers Big Times

5 lakh depositors swindled by Jamaat's farmer wing
By Anwar Ali

Bangladesh Chashi Kalyan Samity (BCKS), farmers' wing of Jamaat-e-
Islami, but also registered as an NGO, remained the party's financial
front through illegal banking in at least 17 districts over a decade,
sources say.

Following a changed scenario after 1/11, the NGO has shut down its
offices and swindled a huge amount of money collected through
deposits, special deposit schemes and investment on loans among
members since 1997.

The BCKS business was also unlawfully sold to Jamaat supporters for
covertly continuing the financial activities.

Dissident BCKS officials, involved Jamaat leaders and victims say the
accurate amount of misappropriation cannot be found out without proper
inquiry. But they add the figure would be minimum Tk 100 crore
collected from about five lakh people.
