The US may offer Israel a powerful radar system that would greatly
strengthen Israeli defenses against ballistic missiles while incorporating
it directly into a growing US missile shield, Reuters reported on Saturday.
US President George W. Bush is expected to discuss the issue during his
visit to Israel on Wednesday and Thursday to mark the 60th anniversary of
the state, people familiar with the matter said, according to the report.
This is "probably the No. 2 issue" on Bush's agenda for the visit, second
only to the Israel-Palestinian peace process, said Illinois Republican Rep.
Mark Kirk, who has led calls for tighter US-Israel missile-defense ties,
Reuters reported.
The Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency is developing the multibillion-dollar
layered shield.
Riki Ellison, a missile defense advocate with close ties to the Pentagon and
companies involved in building the hardware, said giving Israel the
missile-tracking system was "on the table right now," Reuters reported.
The system, known as a "forward-based X-band radar," is transportable by air
and uses high-powered pulsed beams to track objects in space such as
missiles.

WASHINGTON - Presidential hopefuls John McCain and Barack Obama are
continuing to clash over recent remarks by a Hamas spokesperson that
expressed support for the Democratic candidate.
Ahmed Yusuf declared that Hamas "loves" Obama and hopes to see the
Democratic candidate win the presidential elections. The Hamas spokesman
added that Obama is a "great man" similar to John Kennedy and that he can
change America and lead the world without arrogance.
McCain's campaign took advantage of the comments and in a letter to
potential donors wrote that "we need change in America, but not the kind of
change that wins kind words from Hamas." Meanwhile, the Republican candidate
has made sure to emphasize that he will be Hamas' worst nightmare in every
appearance he has been making as of late. Speaking in New Jersey Wednesday,
he said it was clear who Hamas wanted to be the next president.
Obama responded to McCain's charges in an interview with CNN, saying that
McCain's words were "insulting" and "disappointing." He charged that McCain
was trying to "smear" him and that he was "losing his bearings." The
Democratic candidate also said that his policy on Hamas was no different
than McCain's.
Meanwhile, Obama is concentrating his efforts on convincing Democratic Party
super delegates to back his presidential bid, as signs grow that Hillary ...

Happy birthday, Israel, 60 this month. Or, rather, happy birthday, Israels.
For there are two Jewish states. The first is a vigorous democracy, with a
vibrant civil society, a robust independent judiciary and an aggressive free
press. It's a multicul-tural society, boasting Arab members of the Knesset,
the Israeli parliament; Arab diplomats and university professors; soldiers
and beauty queens; and even a Muslim cabinet minister.
Its universities produce world-class research and teaching, especially in
the sciences and high technology. Its economy grew by 5.3%% last year,
beating the UK, US and Japan. Property prices are soaring in Tel Aviv and
Jerusalem. Penthouse apartments overlooking the sea cost millions of
dollars. The country has absorbed millions of Jewish refugees from around
the world and moulded them into a new nation, with a vibrant Hebrew language
and culture - a miracle of near-Biblical proportions.
Then there is the second Israel, whose security fence snakes beyond the
Green Line, the pre1967 border, cutting deep into Palestinian territory.
That Israel subsidises the settlers' para-state, which has its own water and
electricity supplies, its roads forbidden to Palestinians - all guarded by
the Israeli army.

The old British Army base, a small sandstone fort, stands abandoned on a
hill in Abu Ghosh, an Arab village just southwest of Jerusalem. Said Jabr
was 14 when the British pulled out.
"It was on the 14th or 15th of May. I remember exactly that the British
commander came to Ali Saleh, the village mukhtar (elder), and said they were
going to leave and warned us to be ready," he recalled from his family home
in Abu Ghosh. "Thirty-five armed villagers walked into the base to take
command. But the British commander went at the same time to the kibbutz and
told them the same thing.
"The British left one tank in front of the army base. Then a few tanks
driven by the Haganah (the fledgling Jewish army) drove up and surrounded
the army base. But we had great relations with the local...

The Urban Dictionary defines as number 2 a reargunner as
An accessory to the more commonly known "wing man," the rear gunner's
job is to provide even more assistance to the lead and the wing men. The
reargunner's job is to hurl insults and other harmful comments about
the physical traits or mental insecurities of anyone and everyone that
tries to approach either of his buddies. The reargunner is a necessity
for serious pick up situations, a job to be entrusted to a true friend
and serious **** talker.

"My daughter deserved to die "
Abdel-Qader Ali explains why he is unrepentant - and how police backed his
actions. Afif Sarhan in Basra and Caroline Davies report
For Abdel-Qader Ali there is only one regret: that he did not kill his
daughter at birth. 'If I had realised then what she would become, I would
have killed her the instant her mother delivered her,' he said with no trace
of remorse.
Two weeks after The Observer revealed the shocking story of Rand
Abdel-Qader, 17, murdered because of her infatuation with a British solider
in Basra, southern Iraq, her father is defiant. Sitting in the front garden
of his well-kept home in the city's Al-Fursi district, he remains a free
man, despite having stamped on, suffocated and then stabbed his student
daughter to death.
Abdel-Qader, 46, a government employee, was initially arrested but released
after two hours. Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he
had done. 'They are men and know what honour is,' he said.
Rand, who was studying English at Basra University, was deemed to have
brought shame on her family after becoming infatuated with a British
soldier, 22, known only as Paul.

NSA visits nobody. They are virtually toothless under the Bush
administration. There is however the New Gestapo called Homeland
Security headed by a Dual Nationality Jew.
