British soldiers accused of sickening sex assault on Iraqi boy, 14
Just days after the MoD has to pay out millions to the father of a man UK
soldiers beat to death, fresh claims of abuse emerge
British soldiers forced a boy of 14 to carry out an act of oral sex on a
fellow male prisoner in Iraq, according to shocking new allegations made
about the behaviour of British troops.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed yesterday that the Royal Military Police
(RMP) have launched an investigation. If the allegations are proved, it
would mark a sordid low in the behaviour of British troops in Iraq, and
damage further the reputation of Britain in the Middle East.
The victim, now 19, whom The Independent on Sunday has agreed to identify
only as Hassan, says he was rounded up with a friend while trying to steal
milk cartons from a food distribution centre. He was whipped, beaten and
forced to strip naked.
"They made us sit on each other's laps," he said. "They were enjoying
humiliating and abusing us, I wished I was dead at this moment. Then they
made me sit with Tariq... where I was forced to put Tariq's penis in my
mouth. The other two were made to do the same."

UK investigates alleged assault of Iraqi boy
LONDON - Authorities are investigating allegations that British soldiers
sexually assaulted a 14-year-old Iraqi boy.
Britain's defense ministry says in a statement Saturday that military police
have launched an inquiry.
The ministry says the assault allegedly took place at a former British base
called Camp Breadbasket near the southern city of Basra in May 2003. The boy
is now 19 years old.
Authorities did not say how many soldiers were involved.
In a separate case, four soldiers have been found guilty of mistreating
Iraqi prisoners at the base by forcing them to simulate sex.

The Fear Factor That Silences
by Paul Findley
July 9, 2008
"A search of major media--print, radio and television--has virtually the same result: silence.
The Internet is one of the few places where one can find thoughtful and candid examinations of
Israel’s dominance of U.S. society."
Candidates for public office, high and low, are bewitched--frightened is the more accurate
word--by an unwarranted but costly fear of the U.S. lobby that functions on behalf of the State
of Israel.
Comb through the millions of words expressed by the “final three” in the presidential
sweepstakes--Barak Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain--and you will find not a word,
not even a syllable, of criticism of the longstanding U.S. policy bias that heavily favors
Israel, a policy that imposes a staggering burden on U.S. society and infuriates Muslims
worldwide, including eight million who are U.S. citizens.
A search of the millions of words of analysis of talking heads and other commentators who make
a living examining day-by-day the impact of presidential candidate behavior discloses the same
empty-headed silence. They don’t even mention candidate silence on this topic that should be a
fundamental and continuing focus of discussion.

Two leaders from the far-right Vlaams Belang party are among dozens of people arrested by
Belgian police during an anti-Islam rally that had been banned by authorities.
Police clashed with protesters who gathered in Brussels, the Belgian capital, to demonstrate
against what they called “the Islamisation of Europe”.
The march on Tuesday was timed to coincide with the sixth anniversary of the September 11
attacks in New York and organisers had predicted about 20,000 people would attend.
In the end, only one hundredth of that number were reported to have turned up and were nearly
outnumbered by reporters and police.
‘Inflammatory group’
Freddy Thielemans, the mayor of Brussels, banned the rally last month, calling the organisers,
Stop Islamisation of Europe, an inflammatory group and the demonstration a threat to public order.
Thielmans said police made 154 “administrative arrests”.
“I’m shocked. I thought we lived in a democratic country,” Anders Gravers, one of the members
of SIOE – a loose alliance that has origins in the UK, Denmark and Germany, said.
Police confirmed Dewinter and Vanhecke were to be charged for allegedly attacking the driver of
an armoured vehicle that they were taken away in.
The two men are members of the European parliament and two other MEPs were also arrested.
