"Since it invaded Iraq in 2003, the U.S. has detained thousands of
juveniles - some of whom were tortured and sexually abused, according to
published reports. Figures of the number of children behind bars vary. Some
estimates put the number as high as 6,000.
While the criminal abuse of male prisoners at Abu Ghraib is well known,
child and women prisoners held there have also been tortured and raped,
according to Neil Mackay of Glasgow's 'Sunday Herald.' Abu Ghraib prison is
located about 20 miles west of Baghdad.
Iraqi lawyer Sahar Yasiri, representing the Federation of Prisoners and
Political Prisoners, said in a published interview there are more than
400,000 detainees in Iraq being held in 36 prisons and camps and that 95
percent of the 10,000 women among them have been raped. Children, he said,
'suffer from torture, rape, (and) starvation' and do not know why they have
been arrested. He added the children have been victims of 'random' arrests
'not based on any legal text.'"

Hi folks
In a society where purity is demanded of women only and men are
exempted, it is useless to talk about women's rights and privileges or
responsibilities which are the attributes of the equality demanded by
the Quran. According to the Quran the purity of body and soul which is
the hallmark of humans has equally demanded from both men and women.
If keeping herself chaste is the responsibility of the woman then she
has the right to demand this from the men as well. Just as it is
incumbent on the woman to keep herself chaste (24:31), it has also
been made obligatory for men to keep themselves chaste (24:30). In
fact men have been addressed first and women afterwards.
Keeping women confined in houses and forbidding them to go out is a
punishment according to the Quran. It is not Quranic modesty. Now the
question arises as to the manner of her staying at home and her...

"The transition comes at a time of growing concern about an uptick in
violence. In the heavily fortified Green Zone, which will come under
Iraqi control as of Jan. 1, U.S. diplomats spent Christmas Eve on
virtual lockdown as authorities investigated reports that car bombs
had been smuggled inside, U.S. and Iraqi officials said."
"Thousands of U.S. soldiers will remain based at joint security
stations -- outposts they share with Iraqi Army or police units -- for
the foreseeable future."

"U.S. Prepares To Hand Over Baghdad Base"
"Era of Exclusively American Military Posts Coming to End"
By Ernesto Londoño
Washington Post Foreign Service
Thursday, December 25, 2008; A12
BAGHDAD, Dec. 24 -- A year ago, Forward Operating Base Callahan in
northern Baghdad was one of the key U.S. military nerve centers in the
battered capital. Hundreds of soldiers slept in crowded rooms. Humvees
zipped in and out the gate around the clock to keep a vast network of
inner-city outposts humming.

I would say that Eugene Robinson is one of those ``soft on crime''
Washington insider kind of guys; he is being too soft on accepting the
premise Bush and Cheney have offered for the terror they have
unleashed. There simply is no evidence that a lack of another 9/11
type event in the US has anything to do with invading Afghanistan and
Iraq. Even if the White House was not involved in the permission of
9/11 to occur, the fact that ordinary people are looking out for their
own safety in the environment they live in plus a heightened alert at
the Federal level around the clock, along with a multi-billion-dollar
department on domestic security would, by all accounts, reduce the
chance for another 9/11 in the US to practically zero.

REALLY, what a change awaits this great country of ours now that Obama
is going to be the President instead of the trained ape that is Bush
that we had the DISHONOR of having for the last almost FUCKING DECADE!!!
Up there with Nixon Bush is with, mother fucker! A FUCKING IDIOT! AN ETC!
NOTE: Bush has been compared to trained apes previously in this forum.
In all fairness and for the record, that's an improper and unfair
comparison... to the apes! HA HA! MOTHERFUCKER!!!
The Planet Earth is *finally* gettin' RID of one of the absolute worse
(if NOT *the* one and only WORST) so called presidents of the USA which
is also incorrectly (since 2003) called the leader of the Free World).
:-) Yeah fucking YESSS!!!
It could be argued that "there's a god" except that the last 8 years
prove otherwise.
What CAN be said IS that the American people, with its democratic system
will elect a black man if it makes MORE SENSE to do so than elect a
decrepit old fart that's promised to act like the ASSHOLE before him.
Praised be the American People that after seeing what the Bush admin did
to human existence on this planet Earth, finally said FUCK YOU and OUT
with you and yours, MOTHERFUCKERS!!. GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!

Where has Mr Bush squandered the surplus left by the Clinton
Administration.
To finance the "troops", to finance the US weapons industry, and to
promise security to all the world.
What has this left us? and why do we not believe the false promises of
the white man in the white house.
All the liquid assets are presently being squandered to cover and
finance Mr Bush's mistakes and petty pet projects of no return.
I knew on day one of the invasion that Mr bush would not build Iraq's
infrastructure and alll money would be used to attempt to secure
military bases, US oil compny sites, and other assets perceived by US
military as to be of some US dollar value inone way or another.Iraqi
labor is viewed as cheap and big business intends to take advantage of
such cheap labor.
This in general involves not paying the worker enough to support his
family on a single wage earner's income alone.
He says oil revenues are being used to set up militias, buy weapons
and to pay US contractors to provide security.
Promises not kept
