Best in what ? Electronics...big deal. Good
for computer...games. It is old technology...have
been around for decades...even India is better
than Taiwan. Silicon valley is a "has been".

Is Taiwan at the fore front of areo space...in knowledge
industries...in stealth arms technologies....in cell technology..
in nano technology ?

Taiwan universities have to do much better than now.

Indians ??? That's that trouble. They are
no better than Taiwanese.

Nothing much....certainly not the best in the world
in hi-tech.
We suffered the same Confucius educational
problems....too mandarin book-worms as
leaders...have too much respect for teachers..
Creativity is not encouraged...questioning
of authority is discouraged.
In this way, Singapore will NEVER have
original thinker, never produce a Bill Gates...
in short...Singapore is a failure in hi-tech or
low tech.

We will forever be ..far, far behind others.

But Singapore is doing well in banking and finance like London. Dont
forget USA is like entire Europe and Singapore is even smaller than
smallest state of USA so expect Bill Gates in Singapore is unrealistic
dream!

Taiwan is doing well in hi-tech so every nation has its own specialty.
Remember Japan, 4 Asian tigers are under strong influence of
Confucianism!

Why Singapore or Asian countries failed to produce a Bill Gate ?

Is population size the reason ?
Then China and Indian must have produced many,
many Bill Gates...as they have much larger
population than the USA !

Let me try to explain...what is the real reason.

In lecture rooms in Singapore, students will NEVER
raise their hands and question the lecturer even though
they have doubts...out of respect their teacher (our
cultural norms..following Confucius teaching).
In Hawaii, students often stood up to ask questions when
they think that the lecturers were wrong... To them teachers
are only human...don't have all the right answers.

What are you talking about? Honda, Toyota, Samsung... even Hon Hai
(Taiwan)... are all very respected Asian companies... Using Hon Hai
(Taiwan) as an example, it started much later than Microsoft. Hon
Hai's revenue in 2007 is US$40 billion and Microsoft US$44 billion...

Asian students tend to be quiet in the classroom but that does not
mean they can not be brilliant enterperuer. Chairman of Hon Hai, Kuo
Tai-ming did not even go to college but graduated from a technical
school in Taiwan and started from one-person company. Now you tell me
who's better? Bill Gates or Kuo Tai-ming or both are equally good?

And you heard Microsoft vs. Google so what are going to blame this
time? Haha!

They are NOTHING but copy cats...second rate
copy cats.

They are NOT Bill Gates ...started a whole new
industries in Internet...and become the richest man...or
the second richest man.

You don't know? ...what are we talking
about.

We are talking about why Asian countries
cannot produce a Bill Gates.. Reason
because of our cultural baggage...our
respect for our teachers and authority...
for education (following Confucius' teaching).

Well...judging from your response for far..
I don't blame you....

You need to be able to think for yourself,
be rational and logical ..to follow a discussion.
