China's leaders rediscover Confucianism
BEIJING: Marxism no longer serves as Chinese society's guiding
ideology. But that doesn't mean the end of ideology. Western experts
hope liberal democracy will fill the void, but they will have "joined
Karl Marx," as the Chinese used to say, before that happens.
In China, the moral vacuum is being filled by Christian sects, Falun
Gong and extreme forms of nationalism. But the government considers
that such alternatives threaten the hard-won peace and stability that
underpins China's development, so it has encouraged the revival of
Confucianism.
Like most ideologies, however, Confucianism can be a double-edged
sword.
"Confucius said, 'Harmony is something to be cherished,'" President
Hu
Jintao noted in February 2005. A few months later, he instructed
China's party cadres to build a "harmonious society." Echoing
Confucian themes, Hu said China should promote such values as honesty
and unity, as well as forge a closer relationship between the people
and the government.

Rusty OLD FOOL, more Confucianism for you to learn.

SUN WUKONG
Beyond Confucius and communism
By Wu Zhong, China Editor
HONG KONG - Confucianism ruled China intellectually and for real for
more than 2,000 years - until early in the 20th century. Hence
Confucianism has formed the backbone of the Chinese cultural
tradition, in spite of some contemporary efforts to weed it out.
Ritual, or li, is no doubt a core concept of Confucianism.
There are conceptual rules to maintain the order of a hierarchical
society. In the Analects, the Master said: "Put people in their proper
places through roles and rituals, and let them gain a sense of shame,
then they will be orderly and live harmoniously."

Too bad Qin ShiHuang did not succeed in burning all his books and all
the Confucianist scholars. China would have been much better off. Of
course, abum_chump should be tied to a stake and burn alive today.

China embraces Confucius again
Confucius has returned. In fact he was never far away, not even in the
darkest days of the Cultural Revolution. For years the government
reviled Confucius as a representative of "old ways of thinking"...

You should work in a chop suey house and learn some manners. You are
an ill-mannered uneducated scum the world would love to get rid of.

Confucianism in Japan
Although not practiced as a religion, Confucianism from China has
deeply influenced Japanese thought. In essence, Confucianism is the
practice of proper forms of conduct, especially in social and familial
relationships. It is derived from compilations attributed to the fifth-
century B.C. Chinese philosopher Kong Fuzi or Kongzi (Confucius; in
Japanese, Koshi). Confucian government was to be a moral government,
bureaucratic in form and benevolent toward the ruled. Confucianism
also provided a hierarchical system, in which each person was to act
according to his or her status to create a harmoniously functioning
society and ensure loyalty to the state. The teachings of filial piety
and humanity continue to form the foundation for much of social life
and ideas about family and nation.

To be fools like you and PaPaPend? God forbids (using god's name in
vain)!!
> see if you can be less chop suey idiot!
You should work in a chop suey house to learn some manners. You
certainly don't have any. Confucius died 2,500 years ago. He was a
failure in life, like you and PaPaPend. An adult like you still lives
on your grandfather's money. You should crawl into a hole and die.

The fatal error in Confucianism is that it has gotten the temporal
sequence backwards. It is true that parents and children are merely
non-contemporaneous siblings and thus, relative to a stranger, should
occupy a higher place in one's loyalty. (And to extend this further,
one's own co-ethnics and ultimately one's own nation should occupy a
more treasured place compared to some distant unpronounceable tribe or
nation, consistent with Confucianism.)
However, since time only flows in one direction, efforts should be
more practically and fruitfully directed towards progeny than
romantically directed towards parents or ancestors, both of whom are
similarly genetically related. That is, children have one priceless
advantage: time is on their side and they can multiply.

Confucianism in Korea
Although Confucianism was introduced to Korea before Buddhism, its
ideological flowering occurred later through the introduction of Neo-
Confucianism during the late-Koryo and early-Choson periods. For this
reason, we will look at five Confucian thinkers from the Choson
period.
Chong To-jon (1342-1398), styled Sambong, was a thinker who played a
central role in overthrowing the Koryo Dynasty and establishing the
new Choson Dynasty on the basis of Neo-Confucianism. In his teachings...
