An old laptop with Windows 2000 had been given to me by a female
graduate student a year ago while I cleaned their dorm and now when I
first turned it on, it kept generated a blue screen and the following
error:
STOP 0x0000001e (c000009a 80123f36 02000000 00000246)
Unhandled Kernel exception c000009a from 8123f26
Address 80123f36 has base at 80100000 - Ntoskrnl.exe
Anybody here has any idea? I am computer Illiterate and all I know
is to turn it on and type.
Need Help.

Ah, that's what the computer nerds call: "the blue screen of death."
I don't know a lot about computers, but I do know, "Google." This is
what I found. It seems simple enough.

Bawg,
Seem like your operating system is corrupted. Turm your computer
off, turn it back on, keep pressing F8 key, until a new window
appears, select "safe mode" and run it. If it runs, then. go to
"program", choose "accessaries". look for the "system restore",
restore to the earlier time. let's say 2 months ago, then run it.
If it does not, if you have the old operating sytem disc, insert to
the cd drive, turn it on, run the repair option to see if you can
repair the current installed operating system.
finally, if it fails, then you may need to install a new operating
system. Caution, this will wipe out anything you have in your hard
drive.

Mogee,
I tried that and it worked perfectly but now the clock on my computer
keeps going back by several hours. Anyway to fix this problem?
You must be a computer expert. How do you know all this technical
stuff? Bill Gate should have hired you.
Thanks for your advice. I am so glad that my laptop is working again
as I have not backed up all of my files that relate to my parttime
janitorial consultant for the last six months.
I thought it was time for me to retire from the custodial profession.
Little did I know that I'd be back again, mopping floors and dumping
trash to earn an extra income to support my kids through college...

Cwjmem and Mogee,
You are two interesting young Hmong and I enjoy getting to know what
is in your heads. You always share your knowledge with us? Good
technical stuff - makes the old man like me think that if our young
people got a chance to learn, they will know like the rest of the
people too. From jungle to the 21st century, our Hmong people have
proofed themselves that they also have the capability.
Thanks for all your advices and suggestions. And now what is the
timing problem in my poor laptop?

changing clock!
left click on the clock (time). Usually, on the bottom right of your
window screen, click "change date and time settting", then follow
instruction. if your clock is slowing or changing every often, then
look like your system's battery is running out and you have have to
replace it...it is on the mother board and it is quite pain in the ass
to get into the labtop motherboard.
Good luck!

Yes, if it is not working after the changing the clock then change the
battery. That should solve the problem. If not call my good friend
Tsav Foom Yaj - 651-230-4158. He should be able to help you.
To change the clock:
- Double click the time on your lower right (usually).
- A Date/Time Properties popup,
- Go to Time Zone, and change to your time zone
- Click on Apply
- This should work.
I'm glad Cwjmem and Mogee were able to help. This is what we call
helping hands.
