WASHINGTON -- Seven U.S. senators, including all four from Minnesota
and Wisconsin, want Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to look into
Thailand's repatriation of more than 800 ethnic Hmong to Laos.
The senators say they are concerned that Thailand repatriated the
Hmong on Sunday without independent parties monitoring the process.
They urge Rice in a letter sent this week to press Thailand to meet
United Nations and basic human rights standards.
"The circumstances surrounding the repatriation are unclear," the
senators wrote. "We strongly urge you make every effort to obtain a
comprehensive understanding of what occurred during the repatriation
process."
The senators say they're concerned that some of the refugees may face
persecution in communist Laos. The Hmong, an ethnic group from Laos,
fought alongside the U.S. during the Vietnam War. Many settled...

The United States also continues its large-scale program to resettle
Burmese refugees living with unofficial status in Thailand, source
U.S. Department of States; May 23, 2008.
I just returned to work part-time after retirement to train many
Burmese refugees to work as janitor and we have expected 600,000 of
them will be arrived in the states in the next five years. None of
this people have helped the United States like the Hmong used to help
the US during the Vietnam War. Some of them are drug lords and used to
send their drug via Thailand to Hong Kong and the west to fund their
civil war.
The Hmong will be forgotten and those senators including the state
department will pay lid services to us. No matter what our senators
will do, the Bush administration has no policy to accept the Hmong
except the Burmese, the Iraqis and other group.
The repatriation of the Hmong to Laos has been blessed by the state
department that is why the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, or any
other third party, has not been allowed to enter the camp to carry out
an independent screening of their claims for refugee protection.
