Luang Prabang provincial authorities held a ceremony on Friday to
accept a new 5.4 metre tall memorial to the first president of Laos ,
President Souphanouvong, in Naviengkham village, Luang Prabang
district.

The 3-tonne bronze statue was cast in China , and depicts President
Souphanouvong in a standing position and applauding, in commemo-ration
of his role in the revolution and, subsequently, the peace and
development of Laos .

The project to honour President Souphanouvong began in the middle of
this year and will continue through 2009, with landscaped gardens,
trees and shrubs surrounding a fountain planned for the memorial site
on around 8,400 square metres in Naviengkham village.

The first president of the Lao PDR, President Souphanouvong, the son
of Viceroy Boun Khong, was born on July 13, 1909, to the royal family
in Luang Prabang province. The prince studied engineering in Paris and
returned home in 1938.

Commie has sold part of capital city to Chinese! See what I mean!

I was in Suzhou, they have beautiful chinese garden, but you can't see
the Sun in a sunny day. Air quality is awful and this will pass along
the the Lao capital...it opens a sad chapter lao Khoun Lao for the
next 100 years.

BANGKOK--Laos has agreed to a major land concession to Chinese
investors to develop a Suzhou-style "model city" on the outskirts of
the country's capital, Vientiane, according to a well-placed source in
Laos.

In this area, China has a program to build a new city like Suzhou.

Lao official
Under the terms of the agreement, China will hold the site--several
hundred hectares around the That Luang Buddhist monument--on a 100-year
lease, with permission to develop surrounding marshlands, a Lao
government official told RFA's Lao service.

you're right dougi,

after some 62 years of keosone regime in laos, now the lao commu (viet
puppet) start to re-use the name of prince souphanouvong to lure some
left-over-diehard-laodeng like laophuan and joe6pack and
paxasonlao4life.... it's funny that these people after 32 years of
communism in laos plus 30 in the jungle, they still don't know the
fact that prince souphanouvong is the puppet of kaison for all of his
life time....

now, most laonai and laonork know the commu trick very well, it's just
a matter of time for lao people to kick out this garbage commu regime
and reconstruct the real lao reconcilliation....

Pizone,

I afraid the Viet and the Chin got into Laos too far, too deep and we,
Lao Nork and Nai, are not going to be able to do anything to free Laos
any more. Once they are in, you can't get them out any more..

I thought that the very reason Laos was in this "Mess" was to get rid
of foreigner invasion with their ideaologies, and now the chin and
viet too over Laos as history repeats itself all over, again!

wowwwwwwwwww......

Moobsib, if that is true...it would then takes another 100 years to
get rid of these chin and viets then.....too bad, Laos was and is
never fully mature to care for her own indepedent state, as
always...lives under foreigner ideals and guidance.

Chinese acquired SIP SONG PANA (12000 rice fields) province in S.west
China from lao then, now Chinese is getting Mouang Phainam (vieng
chanh). Most dam projects in Laos are sold/lease for 25 years for
foreigners, leaving khoun lao
dirty water to drink. Lands were sold/leased to neighboring
countries. They import the same produces from Lao soils and export
back to Lao consumers...like the US. army expression "they said the
army is fine, they gave you $100.00 and take back $99.00" in this
case, Foreigners is giving those idiots of a few on the top, LPDR
leaders $1.00 and foreigners take back $99.00.

Folks, this is a true cave-dwelling 30-year eras economic planning
works the country very well. These corrupted leaders will sell
anything that they can get their hands on. Don't sleep too well!
