What's your take on euthanasia, known as "mercy killing"? Also,
what's your take on life-prolonging procedures such as giving people
operations and oxygen? Should we kill people to end their suffering?
Should we prolong people's life in the hope that they will recover?

LOURDES, France – People must accept death at "the hour chosen by
God," Pope Benedict XVI told ailing pilgrims Monday in an anti-
euthanasia message at Lourdes, the shrine that draws the desperate,
sick and dying.

At the chilly open-air service outside the sanctuary reputed for its
curative spring water, some faithful lay on gurneys, tucked into
quilts and comforters. A few breathed with oxygen tanks. The 81-year-
old pontiff administered the sacrament of the sick to 10 people, most
in wheelchairs, gently anointing their foreheads and palms with oil.

While several European countries permit euthanasia, the Vatican
vehemently maintains that life must continue to its natural end. The
pope said in his homily that the ill should pray to find "the grace to
accept, without fear or bitterness, to leave this world at the hour
chosen by God."

zhen,

they don't want to what? kill themselves? I am not talking about
killing yourself.

Nowadays, Hmong people encounter this dilemma...especially the use of
technology to prolong life. Many times, Hmong people were asked to
decide whether or not to pull the plug on someone they love because
the prospect of their love one getting better is hopeless, according
to doctors.

church is so full of hypocrisy. if there is heaven as claimed, these
people won't want to prolong their life with so much suffering but
hasten death so they would be with go
---be with 7 virgins. Even Pope
John Paul did not want to die---he knows there is no heaven.

so, no free will? do as god say. and since we can't really hear god,
do what the pope says, for he is our direct line to god.

pope john paul did not want to die because he knew there IS a heaven,
it was here on earth. i don't think heaven will be any better than
heaven on earth. i don't think hell will be any worse than hell on
earth.

Some of you may think the decision on another's life is a joke, but as
mortals and living in this highly technological country, we will all
face this decision some day. Many of you may already had.

I know of two Hmong cases and have heard of many.

Case 1. An old grandmother was given six months to live due to a
heart condition. She refused to have a heart transplant. The
hospital had exhausted all medical options to treat her so she was
given...

not sure why you would think "we" (or i) would think such is a joke.
case 1 seemed like abandonment more than euthanasia. case 2 seemed
more like euthanasia.
