Organ Donations and Hmong Belief

Cov laus hais tias nyob luag ntuj yuav tau ua luag txuj yog li nej xav
li cas ntawm organ donations? Hmoob qhov belief tias yog muab yus tej
organ los ib yam dab tsi tawm ntawm yus lawm ces yus yuav mus thawj
thiab tsis tau thiab pheej yuav rov los nrhiav no nej puas ntseeg?
tsi tag li Hmoob tseem ntseeg tias yog yus muab yus organ txiav tawm
ces lwm tiam yus yug los ces tej ntawv yuav tsis muaj (missing). Yog
muaj tseeb ces Meskas kuj yuav muaj cov yug los with missing organs
coob heev li puas yog? Your thoughts?

For me, I think we should donate our organs (if they are still good)
when we die so others may benefit from them. We don't need them any
more after we die and when we reincarnate, we'll have a totally new
body (that is - if we believe in reincarnation or multiple life times)

Peace,
HK

Phoojywg Hnubkaj,
Muaj tseeb li koj hais, Hmoob yeej tsis kam donate organs. Tabsis tsis
yog tim kev ntseeg, yog tim Hmoob lub siab thiab culture xwb. Cov coj
kev cai tshiab los tib yam nkaus, yeej tsis kam donate organ thiab.

HL,
Please elaborate on what part of Hmong culture might have prohibited
them from participating in organs donation. Is it the lack of
information /misinformation or is it deeper than that? I agree that
both Christian and non-Christian Hmong have the same reaction towards
organ donations.

Here's a true story - about 10 years ago, a very talented and young
Hmong woman was diagnosed with kidney disease. She was on the list
for a kidney transplant for quite a few years. As her condition
worsened, one of her brothers stepped forward and offered one of his
kidneys but her parents intervened citing the procedure was too
risky. During this time, she wrote many poems about life, about being
a Hmong girl/woman etc. One day after the reading of one of her poem
to an American audience, a total stranger approached her and offered
to give her a kidney. It was a miracle! This stanger turned out to
be a perfect match for her. She had her operation and it was a
success. After she recovered, she wrote a beautiful poem to honor
this stranger who gave her life without any expectation.

PY Hnubkaj,
Koj zaj dab neeg kuj yog txaus tu siab thiab. Hmoov zoo uas muaj tus
cawm nws lawm. Tsis txhob xav hais tias yog tus tub ces niam/txiv yeej
kam tso cai lawm no nawb.

Qhov kuv hais tias vim Hmoob lub siab thiab culture no mas yog li no:
Hmoob ib txwm muaj tus cwj pwm coj lub siab qus qus, ntshai ntsai,
thiab tsis ntseeg luag tus sab nraud kiag.
Hmoob ib txwm muaj lub siab me me, ti ti, nqaim nqaim tsis kam muab
yus txoj sia pub rau luag lwm tus kaig.
Hmoob nyiam kom luag muab rau Hmoob xwb, tabsis tsis kam muab rau
luag.
Hmoob ntshai ntshai hais tias tsam yus yog niag Hmoob xwb, tsam Dr.
rawm rawm kom yus tuag es nws zoo muab yus tej plabplaw mus kho lwm
tus xwb.
Hmoob xav kom Dr. kho kom kawg kiag nws txuj nws ci, yog kho tsis tau
lawm los yus thiaj tsis tu taus siab lawm.
Qhov loj tshaj yog tej kev donate plabplaw (organs) no tseem tshiab
rau Hmoob heev.
