LAOS: All female clearance team

Across all the regions where MAG works, women play a focal (although
often unrecognised) role in the survival strategies and economy of the
most vulnerable households within a community. In acknowledgment of
this, MAG trains and employs women as deminers and UXO technicians,
enabling them to more fully realise their potential and improve the
quality of their lives and those of their families.

Female deminers bring particular characteristics and unique
perspectives to MAG’s work and play an important role in enabling MAG
to better understand the impact of UXO on women and female children
living in UXO contaminated communities. Later this year, the all-
female team in Xieng Khouang will be part of a study to develop a
better understanding of how UXO impacts on the daily lives of women
and female children, with a particular focus on the lives of female
survivors/widows of UXO victims.

Thank you DKJ for providing all these very poignant pictures that are
so hard to watch for any real patriotic Lao person who can also be
overwhelmed with a sense of indignation toward such a heart-breaking
sad legacy inherited from this goddam war. Even though one can
overhear from a point of view with a simplistic assumption as this war
destruction is just like any war with unintended consequence from both
sides. Only with the passage of time and maturity in research, one can
find out that our tiny country has been indeed used for target
practice or bomb laboratory of another disproportional experimentation
by the most powerful country in the world. With so many unanswered
opened questions still lingering on this subject to today, the daily
reality is so painful to watch with so many ordinary Lao victims,
among many not even born yet during this disparaging evil conflict,
but who continue to pay with their own life at the expense of these
uninvited UXO that will be likely to be the curse of the country for a
long time to come with even more human tolls, since the country is
stepping on economic and human expansion. The uncle Sam seems still
proud of his war record book for having put the tiny Laos on the world
map, not as the happiest tourist destination, but as the most ever
bombed country per square mile in the entire human history…but in ...
