What amazes me is, why would the Republicans spend a whole night of
their convention attacking Obama's services to ordinary people in poor
rural areas? The Republicans still don't get it. Just because
prestigious people like Palin and McCain start to work from the top;
poor people don't always have that opportunity. They start at the
bottom and they can relate more to people in need.
With the nation watching, the Republicans mocked, dismissed and
actually laughed out loud at Obama's low status and their aim is
obvious - to keep him as far away from the Oval office but what
Republicans don't realize is they are insulting all Americans who
engage in community service and organizing down. Poor to middle class
(community) people made up the majority of this country today. This
kind of attacks only strengthens them more and bringing them closer.
McCain and Palin needs to realize that people like community
organizers in many non-profit entities who devote part of their busy
lives to organizing and building their communities -- actually have
the power to change this country. John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin
Luther King has done it with the poor and middle class behind them.
The Obama or Democrats' convention was different. They gave the stage
to everyday Americans who hunger for jobs, change and stepped up to
make phone calls, knock on doors, and raise money in small amounts in
the community.
Obama's plan is about cutting taxes for the middle class, raising
taxes for the rich, rewarding firms that do business domestically, and
waging war as a last resort not rushing into a losing war. Vietnam
should have been a lesson and now Iraq. Obama's focus is on the
terrorists. He cares about human rights violation in Burma, Tibet,
Sudan, Georgia and more...
What I didn't hear from the Republicans at their convention is a
single new idea about how to make the healthcare system work, get the
economy moving for the middle class, or improve education to make it
affordable, and restore America's image around the globe.
The victory of either party will have little or no impact on us Hmong
but from a political standpoint the Obama camp has a stronger case.
If Hmong want to be a part of the American history, join him.
