Background
AIT, established in 1959, is a regional multicultural institution of

The Urban Environmental Management (UEM) Field of Study (FoS),
established in 1996, is one of the 10 fields of study that make up the
School of Environment Resources and Development (SERD).
The Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications
Project
The Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications (SEA-
UEMA) Project, 2003 - 2010, is a partnership program between the
Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and AIT.
The goal of the project is to contribute to the improvement of urban
environmental conditions in Southeast Asia through improved
implementation of urban environmental management policies and
innovative local solutions of the urban environmental problems in the
three key UEM sub-sectors: i) water and sanitation ii) solid waste and
iii) air pollution and thereby improve the local environmental
conditions with particular attention to the poor and women.
The project's four core areas are:
• Flagship Projects
• Policy Advocacy
• Learning Networks and Training
• Graduate Education
The Project Director oversees the project and each core area is led by
a Coordinator. The Project Director and the Core Area Coordinators are
designated members of the UEM faculty team.
Project Associate / Project Assistant (Project Management) Position
The School of Environment, Resources and Development seeks for the
Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications Project, a
Project Associate / Project Assistant who will be primarily
responsible for managing project management related activities of the
project. The Project Associate / Project Assistant will work under the
supervision of Project Manager and coordinate with all Core Area
Coordinators.
The successful candidate will work in close partnership with the
Project Director, Deputy Director, Core Area Team Coordinators, Gender
Specialist, Project Manager and the rest of the members of project
team.
Qualifications
1. A Master’s Degree/ Bachelor Degree in urban planning, environmental
management, management studies, development studies and social science
or other related fields:
2. Knowledge and experience of SE Asia urban environmental planning
and management
3. Substantial knowledge and 5 years experience of Project Management
related activities;
4. Good inter-personal skill and capability to work in a team:
5. Good coordination skill to collect necessary information, data and
report from the members of project team;
6. Good knowledge and understanding of Result Based Management (RBM);
7. Good understanding of gender equality integration in UEM;
8. Capacity to work in stress environment:
9. Excellent skill in computer; and
10. Excellent command in written and spoken English;
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To work closely with the Project manager;
2. To serve as a member of the Project Team and assist in the project
management activities;
3. To help in arranging project management related meetings including
Project Steering Committee Meeting, Project Operational Meeting,
Debriefing session of Monitoring Mission, Project Management
Committee Meeting, Project Management Committee-Executive Group
Meeting, key partners semi-annual and annual meeting etc.;
4. To help in preparing working of all project related meetings and
events
5. To organise Annual Planning workshop;
6. To coordinate with the members of Core Area Teams and Gender Team
and collect necessary report related to project management;
7. To prepare the annual work plan, project progress report and annual
report on results and other relevant report for CIDA:
8. To help in updating project website
9. Assist the Project Manager in any other project management
activities; and
10. Any other task that may be required and assigned by the Project
Management

Project Associate who will be primarily responsible for managing
graduate education related activities of the project. The Project
Associate will work under the supervision of Coordinator, Graduate
Education Core Area and coordinate with all Core Area Coordinators and
Project Manager.
The successful candidate will work in close partnership with the
Project Director, relevant Core Area Team Coordinators, Project
Manager and the rest of the members of project team.
Qualifications:
1. A Master’s Degree in urban planning, environmental management,
management studies, development studies and social science or other
related fields:
2. Knowledge and experience of SE Asia urban environmental planning
and management issues, problems and potential solutions;
3. Experience in administering graduate and postgraduate education,
curriculum development and organising workshop/training;
4. Excellent skill in computer; and
5. Excellent command in written and spoken English;
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To work closely with the Coordinator, Graduate Education Core Area
Team and Coordinator of other Core Area Teams;
2. To administer graduate education and post-graduate education
related activities of the SEA-UEMA Project;
3. To coordinate with the faculty members of UEM FoS to revise the
UEM curriculum to update it through the systematic use of case studies
and the project’s data vase;
4. To prepare the budget and annual work plan for Graduate Education
Core Area;
5. To prepare progress report and annual report on results and submit
to project management;
6. To organise training and workshop for curriculum development and
continuing education;
7. To provide support in conducting Tracer Study:
8. Assist the Project Manager in project management activities; and
9. Any other tasks assigned by the Project Management Team

Project Associate (Learning Networks and Training) Position
The School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) seeks for
the Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications
Project, a Project Associate (Learning Networks and Training) for the
management of UEM networks and conduct training, coordinate with
National Node and provide support to Network Coordinator of National
Node, knowledge development and sharing with networks and other
related activities under Learning Networks and Training Core Area. The
Project Associate will work under the supervision of Coordinator,
Learning Networks and Training Core Area Team and coordinate with all
Core Area Team Coordinators and Project Manager. The successful
candidate will work in close partnership with the Project Director,
Deputy Director, relevant Core Area Team Coordinators, Project Manager
and the rest of the members of project
Qualifications
1. A Master’s Degree in urban planning, environmental management,
environment and development, management studies, development studies,
social science and ICT or other related fields:
2. Knowledge and experience of SE Asia urban environmental planning
and management issues, problems and potential solutions;
3. Understanding of political, social and institutional organisations
and mechanisms in SE Asia
4. Substantial knowledge and five years related experience with
information dissemination, networking, partnership building and
organizing training and workshop;
5. Excellent skill in computer uses and understanding of information
communication technologies (ICT) and systems management;
6. Knowledge and experience in capacity building and gender equity in
SE Asian context; and
7. Excellent command in written and spoken English;
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To work closely with the Coordinator, Learning Networks and
Training Core Area Team and Coordinator of other Core Area Teams;
2. To manage the UEM networks and training related activities of the
SEA-UEMA Project;
3. To initiate and maintain dialogue and discussion with network
members and fully operationalize the UEM networks;
4. To organise and co-ordinate events related to the networks
including training programs;
5. To develop information communication technologies (ICT) related
aspects of the networks;
6. To be articulate, work independently and remain committed to the
mission and principles of CIDA and AIT;
7. To serve as a link and help create mutually beneficial synergy
between the different Core Areas of the project;
8. To take initiative for the sustainability of networks beyond the
project period
9. To coordinate with National Nodes and provide support to Network
Coordinator of National Nodes to perform activities related to
networking, network sustainability and organising training and
workshop;
10. To assist the Project Director, Deputy Director, Coordinator,
Learning networks and Training Cora Area Team, other Core Area Team
Coordinators and Project Manager in developing and maintaining
external relations;
11. To prepare the budget and annual work plan for Learning Networks
and Training Core Area;
12. To prepare progress report and annual report on results plan for
Learning Networks and Training Core Area and submit to project
management;
13. Assist the Project Manager in project management activities; and
14. Any other tasks assigned by the Project Management Team
