US medical volunteers to visit Luang Prabang

The Aloha Medical Mission (AMM), a Honolulu-based secular, non-profit
volunteer organisation, will provide free healthcare to
underprivileged people in Luang Prabang province this month.

The mission will make its annual visit to the province from February
18 to 22.

Over 30 volunteers from Honolulu , Hawaii , and Seattle , Washington ,
will join the mission this year, in two teams, according to the
group's administrator, Dr Phoumy Bounkeua, a Lao-American physician
who has just arrived in the province.

The medical team, led by Dr Alison Shigaki, will visit Long Laow I-II,
Long Lan, Ban Kokwan, Na Ang, and Ber-sip villages in Chomphet, Xieng
Ngeun and Luang Prabang districts throughout the week, and the
surgical team, led by Dr Lisa Grininger, will be based at the Luang
Prabang Provincial Hospital and work with local surgeons to improve
surgical techniques, Dr Phoumy said.

Local doctors and medical staff from the hospital will partner with
team members to provide clinical medical care to the surrounding
villages, he said.
