Colleagues,

For years Dr. Pao was an obedient and cheering devotee to Neohoum and
its great leader, ready to sacrifice (I mean sacrifice other Hmong)
for whatever challenges ahead, be it war or mass suicide. Lately, a
mere mention of his affiliation to the latter somehow set the man all
electrified and aflame with denial and other unsavory recriminations.

I wonder if this sudden change of behavior was a simple manifestation
of a split-personality crisis, a "niam hlob niam yau" syndrome or a
more mysterious intrigue in the work.

In other words, is Dr. Pao Jumping ship? In that case, he might of
course wish to wash himself clean of the past. But I doubt a few
Houdini acts would do the trick. Yet, this is still more palatable
than sinking with the ship.

Hmong World Congress (HWC) ? I am not sure what has happened there
beyond the unsealed allegations that everybody has so far seen. This
scenario seems to describe a case of "wolf in sheep clothing".
Whatever it is, settling the dispute by the law is a good idea, unlike
the old time in Long Cheng where big shots bombed each other. The best
option for the principals is to settle out of court and soon. A court
fight is very expensive and damaging, considering that they are
supposed to be angel organizations.

It is just reprehensible that these hmong human rights advocacy
organizations are so crewed up. In the old archaic English, congress
also means "screw". Maybe, they have taken this meaning too seriously.
Instead of helping Hmong with human rights issues, they somehow have
only given Hmong bad name.

I do encourage Dr. Pao to participate in SCH and take the stand that
he believes in. This is how we all learn to grow and become more
worldly. I hope that Dr. Pao does not shy away from SCH. This would be
a real loss to SCH. It would be a loss to me. I never treat any debate
in SCH as a win-lose discourse. It is always a pure exchange of
perspectives. I have taken lessons from you all as well.

I never thought that Dr. Pao would actually sue me. That would be
crazy. I thought it was a desperate strategy on his part to soften me
up a bit. I have known Dr. Pao in SCH since its inception in late
1996. Since he and I have had a few rounds on the various subjects,
but to a lesser extent.
