yawg sib,

i almost forgot, slapping their hands is intervention, but i am always
promoting prevention. tej zaum peb hmoob yuav tau npaj kev qhuab qhia
s/d tus loj tus me tus laus tus hluas kom txawj "leem cai" or in
english know about sportsman-like conduct. tej yam qhuab qhia me me li
no xwb pab tau ntau ntau. in high school, thaum 1990's, nyob fresno,
me nyuam hmoob mas ua laib coob coob. nyob thoob plaws fresno high
schools, muaj cov asian clubs. cov asian clubs no txawj sib tiv tauj
sib tw ncaws/ntaus npas thiab. txhua txhua lub asian club yeej yog me
nyuam hmoob coob; lawv kuj muaj advisor los sponsor thiab. cov sponsor
mas yog ib tug neeg dawb xwb (tam sim no, kuv kuj pom 2-3 tug hmoob ua
hauj lwm nyob huav high school los sponsor lawm thiab). txhua zaus peb
tus sponsor yeej los tham + qhia peb txog how to have good
sportsmanship, which includes respect for yourself and your opponent.
tsis tag li ntawv, peb tus sponsor kuj hais kom xob mob siab, mam li

in my 4 years of high school through participating with sports through
asian clubs in fresno, i never saw a single fight or anything
indicative of imminent danger among the participants. i 'heard' of one
drive by, but that was gang-related, and not intrinsic to the sport
activities and participants.

tej zaum, peb poob qab tus thawj coj los coj kom txawj 'leem cai'
lawm. tej zaum, peb nplam ntxhiab vim from the bottom up and top down,
tsis muaj ib qho chaws yooj yim promote prevention. i tend to be an
optimist (believe it or not). kuv xav, hmoob yeej hloov tau tus cwj
pwm no tiag tiag---luag twb ua tau, hmoob yeej ua tau. in my
experience, the coach and team captain have the most influence on the
team on how the tone will be set before the game. it's not enough to
say hmoob phem li u li no, qhov ntawv yooj yim. it's necessary and
difficult to provide an actionable, effective solution.
