Nyob zoo cov npojyaig,
I read most of your comments and it’s appears to me that there is a
misunderstand of the difference practice of Hmong ceremony when it
come to who doing what? what was going on in these events? and as a
result we continue to uses such incorrect phrase when refer to what
was done in regard to the two seperate events in Seattle, Washington
and St. Paul, MN as “Ua Neeb”
First, the individual who carried out these ceremonies in Seattle,
Washington and St. Paul were txiv neeb/niam neeb, but I believe this
practice does not required the individual to be a Txiv neeb or Niam
neeb to carry out such ceremony. A few good example of these types of
practice would included (1) Hu Plig, (2) Fiv Yeem & Pauj Yeem, (3)
Saib tsawv & Saib Yaig, (4) Ua nyuj dab and many other.
Therefore, I want to make sure that we are on the same page in regard
to what these individual were tried to do here, which clearly not the
same thing as “ua need” and shouldn’t be label as such as “Ua neeb”.
Secondly, just because the one who’s carry out this ceremonies is a
Txiv Neeb/ Niam Neeb and the ceremonies took place outside the house.
That doesn’t add up like math.
Txiv Neeb + Outside = Ua neeb tom tshav pum (sound pretty good but
this is just another case of INCORRECT Direct Translation)
What these individual were tried to do here was to negotiate with the
unknown (DAB) about a piece of property that believe to be inhabit by
this unknow (DAB). One of the reason is a “Tswv Teb Chaws” in the case
of Seattle or “lost soul” in the case of St. Paul and these lost souls
were waiting around the property for someone to tell them where to go.
The case in Seattle was more or less like a negotiation of a business
transaction, because of dispute property and the case in St. Paul was
more or less like a house cleaning type of ceremonies (Cheb vaj cheb
tsev) with a last minutes of remaind the current unknown resident of
property to leave the property. I don’t know if the niam neeb offer
these unknown resident anything in return for them to leave the
property.
