Regardless of when it is or where it is...its not a new year
celebration...in the past, in sacramento, i have been asked a few
times by a few to be part of the "sacrmaneto new year inc"...and i
refused...but i never told them why i don't want to join....simply
because such a thing (pov pob, tshav qaib etc..) is not a new year
celebration for hmong. yog tias lawd lam muab hu something else other
than "new year" no ces kuv kam joing kawg....but this is no thte
case. the "idea" of hmong new year, as we know it now, was carelessly
and wrongly exposed to the outside world. and its sad...now, when the
outside world (even the hmong) refer to new year celebration, all they
know is "ball tossing, vendors, soccer, etc"...

as i explained before (and got rediculed by it) hmong new year
celebration occurs in house, and it involves, hu plig, tiam tsiab, noj
tsiab, ntuag qhawv, noj 30, pe tsiab, txw xwm kab, ntuav pob
ntoo...xob yem, etc....after three days of noj 30 (INHOUSE), then
tibneeg mam li tawm rooj (ANYWHERE OUTSID EOF THE HOUSE) mus tim tshav
pob (tsav hauv toj), which has nothing to do with noj 30 xyoo tshiab.
yOG nom tswv tsi tsa hauv toj ces, tibneeg mus pov pob right outside
their house..... noj 30 xyoo tshiab mas occurs only 1 day of the
year...and if people saib hli ua, ces yeej yog tib hnub xwb tiag
tiag...temsis tsa hauv toj can occur anything after or before (but
usually after and around xyoo tshiab), xyoo tshiab. the two concepts
(noj 30 xyoo tshiab and tsa hauv toj) are totally differently in
essense and celebration.

it is unfortuanate that when hmong first arrived in the US, cov "coj
noj coj ua (who didn't looked in these two things carefully), wrongly
chose "tsav hauv toj" as hmong new year celebratino. vim li no, mooob
thiaj li muaj "new year" ntau ua luaj...because in the past, peb yeej
tsa hauv toj at different times at different cities in laos. temsis,
hais txog hu plig 30 (thye essense of hmong new year) occurs only one
day for all...give or take 1-2 days due to not being able to put it
together in time.

even now, i heard that there is a "new year council" org out
there...trying to fix the problem of "mnay new year"...STILL, THEY
HAVEN'T HIT THE VIRUSE..that is...THEY REFUSED TO SOLVE THE MAIN
PROBLEM THAT WHAT WE CALL "NEW YEAR" NOW IS NOT REALLY A NEW
YEAR...BUT ONLY A 'TSAV HAUV TOJ" EVENT.
