mr. xiong-- nyob zoo. question for you. kuv hnov hais tias senator
mee moua thiab koj kuj yog 2 tug hmoob delegates attended the
democratic national convention in denver. my question in your opinion/
perspective, what would be your reccommendation for us voters. who
would be the better choice, macain or obama and why? i am sure you
are with the democratic party and it is highly likely you will suggest
us to go for mr. obama. but let just put you in a third party
position with no affiliation with either party, what would your
reccomendation be? be honest.

Lee Pao Xion
-- what you said is indeed true. but the real question i
have is do we want someone who we think can do something to help us
hmong or someone who we think can do something to help the country as
a whole? as now, we all know our economic is in deep trouble. we are
losing our house, job, retirement funds/social security, etc.. what
would be your main concern here, the hmong or the country economic?

Disclaimer: I am not a fan of either Obama or McCain.
Let me play the devils advocate to Lee Pao’s conclusions. It is
irresponsible, unless you are a politician, to pick and chose only those
points that furthers your own agenda.
The whole picture must be presented.
Lee Pao’s nine points would not have occurred but for one overriding
factor. It was the democratic leadership that started this whole Vietnam
War debacle. I was the Dems who made promises to the Hmong and failed to
keep them.
Point 1. The refugee act under Mondale did not originally include the
Hmong people. Even though the Hmong were the US fiercest ally, the States
Department did not mention the Hmong to Congress in 1975, 76 and 77. The
Vietnamese, Laotians, and Cambodians were given preferential treatment
over the Hmong. It was through the hard work of individuals that
eventually shed light on this plight. How long did the Viets, Laotians,
and Cambodians sit in refugee camps? Forty years later the Hmong are
still in them!
Point 2. Is a debatable topic.

Hello Chong:
let's get the facts straight here. This is my response to your points
above:
1. The Indochina Migration and Refugee Assistance Act (1975) was
extended to Laotian, which includes ethnic Lao, Hmong and other
minority groups (Vang, C. (2008). Hmong in Minnesota. Minnesota
