ctj,
a genetic study? could you provide more details? a genetic study is
too generic of a term.
this may sound wrong to say, but i have heard many elders say it. we
got what we have here because of the french missionaries and colonial
masters. you have a passion for hmong history in indochina, it seems.
did you encounter stories where hmong women and/or daughters were
whored to the french? how about the "rumor" that touby had one of his
own wives sleep with a french guy. the "rumor" that touby was a
francophile to such extreme. i think i read this somewhere. look to
quincy's books or jhm's book.
i wonder if this phenotype is localized to indochina only or does it
extend to china as well. i wouldn't be surprised if china miao had the
same phenotype, because the miao were among the first, if not the
first, group of people the westerners penetrated for they were the
most impoverished (thus willing to accept God's grace, so they say
anyways). what would be interesting is to see regions where
comparatively few western expeditions have penetrated and where there
are hmong, to see if this phenotype still is expressed.
some of these recessive phenotypes could be natural (in the sense that
it was not introduced via foreigners) i.e. mutations.
