Dr. Pao H. Lee and all,

Can some one share with me the followings:

1. A laptop computer that is capable of handling professional level
digital and HD video with quality sounds should be equiped with what
kind of components in it? What brand and model is the best and
affordable?

2. What editing software is most easy to learn and operate yet can
create professional quality video (DVDs, VCDs & VHS)?

Thanks,

MS

Currently, the top movie making softwares are: Final Cut Pro, Edius,
Adobe Premiere, and Sony Vegas Pro. Final Cut Pro can only be used on
a Mac, whereas the others can be used on Windows. I have no
experience with Final Cut so, I can't help you much there.

As for Edius, Adobe Premiere, and Vegas, all are equally robust, so
any one can do what you want it to do. I would say Vegas is easier to
use if you are not a techy. 99%% of Hmong who dub foreign movies use
Vegas video because Vegas was originally designed as an audio
software. Edius appears to handle HD videos better if you are just
getting started with HD. Premiere is probably the grandfather of all
these software, so it has a lot of plugins made for it, IF you want a
bunch of effects. Plus, Premiere is a cousin of After Effects,
Photoshop, and Audition, Encore (for making DVD) so if you're gonna be
a serious artist, you can't lose with Premiere.

Me? I used a combination of them to accomplish what I want just
because I like to experiment and each has its own advantages.

Regarding laptop, the latest Dell would probably do what you want.
For me, I prefer desktop because I can build my own. Unless you are
constantly on the move, a desktop would be more powerful than a laptop
when it comes to video editing.

On Dec 4, 10:08 am, Moobsib,

In my view you should own the Macbook.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco...
You will have the following advantage:
-Friendly, stable and powerful OS/ interface
-Work much better than any window based PC at the same range
-Very good performance
-Fully load with music, photo, video (DVD, HD) friendly softwares
- Lot of high quality software out there and affordable price (pro
quallity)
-Internet could be accessed wirelessly, fast and reliable
- 99%% virus free
-A little bit pricy but this is the real deal (get the $1500.00
version)

If portability is not a requirement to you then the imac, 20 inches
version has the best value. The sofware packages are the same.
(get the $1500.00 version)

Nyob zoo kwv Sibtham,

Thanks so much for your cents. Yes, a cousin of mine told me a couple
months ago that mac/apple is simple and easy to use, yet virus free.
Though I have never use one before. May be I will do that on my next
computer purchase.

Best,

Thanks, Vimhlub. Yes, my son in-law did advise me that a desk top has
more advantage over a lap top one. It is good for those of you who can
custom built one for your technical needs.

Moobsib,

Here some ideas that I just want to add to what others had mentioned
already. As far as I know in the Twin Cities, some have used Adobe
Premiere Pro to edit videos, Adobe Audition to edit audio, Adobe After
Effect to make effect on transactions, and Adobe Encore to finalize
DVD such as making motion chapters and redirect viewers to the start
main menu page after finishing play back.

The latest version of Adobe video editing products are called ADOBE
CS3 which include the above programs. I would say they are the best,
but the price tag is about $1,800.00. They do have training videos
for you to watch too, but it come with a price of about $300 to $600.
I do have the cracked version of Adobe cs3 that I can make copies for
you. I do not forget about Cib Xyooj karaoke videos.

For laptop, DELL is not bad, but Dell has 2 types of laptop. Dell
Latitude is designed for business use as Dell Inspiron is for home
use. Blu-Ray disc burners are available now though it cost about $600
depends on what brand name you like.
