YOUNG PHENOM OUTPLAYS GROWN MEN FOR JULY 4TH CHAMPIONSHIP

The task before her seemed like a no-win situation. The only female to
compete in this year’s July 4th Hmong Tennis Tournament, Anna Yang
thought she would go home empty-handed.

Standing just under 5 foot tall, the 13-year-old freshman from San
Diego faced a field of men who would certainly overpower her.

"We brought Anna to Minnesota to compete with other girl tennis
players," explained Anna’s father, Cha Yang. "But when we found out
she was the only girl playing this year, we decided to compete anyway,
just for the experience."

Having never played in a Hmong tournament before, the young teenager
didn’t know what to expect. "I didn’t think I had a chance."

In the championship match against Chanthavorn Thao, the youngster won
6-1, 6-0. A unanimous knock-out.

where were you when she won the tourney? it was then ....she had won
more than one time at july 4th....smile!

participation in a "hmong" tournament. also, her dad, in the comments
to this article, stated that by joining this tournament, they had some
hesitation b/c it could not do much to her usta standings.

i thought this article was interesting, b/c this article reported an
outstanding pioneer from our people in this field. geeezzz.. if there
was a xaws paj ntaub contest, i wonder if a male hmong could compete
against a field of female hmong women and win? anna, according to the
comments, beat the defending champion (a kaus lim guy) on her way to
the finals. one spectator commented that after being outplayed by
anna, the kaus lim guy dag tias nws mob mob in the second set kom xob
txaj txaj muag yog nws swb.

the reason i asked you because she had won more than 1 championship at
the July 4th tournament, and that article was back in 2005.
