Have always wondered why sake would be worth the
trouble to pay so much. But I guess the foods to eat
with the tasting make it worthwhile?

Sounds like you've never had real good sake. Like wine there is the bad
stuff and the real good stuff and everything in between. I was at a
Japan Expo in LA a couple of years ago and they had a premium sake
tasting event as part of the admission, what a deal, got to try a couple
of dozen high-end sakes...got my moneys worth and a great chance to find
a sake that you really like. For those of you who enjoy the finer
things in life consider attending the Joy of Sake event, the food sounds
great too. 300 premium sakes, wow! Bring along a designated driver :-) .
