The Governor General is thrilled to attend the premiere of the Haitian
version of STARMANIA presented in Montréal
March 26, 2008
OTTAWA--Their Excellencies, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean,
Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, will be
attending the premiere of STARMANIA, a new adaptation by the Haïti En
Scène troupe from Port-au-Prince. The performance will be held at
TOHU, in Montréal, on Thursday, March 27, 2008.
As patron of TOHU, the Governor General will deliver opening remarks,
underscoring the importance of this celebration of ties between Haiti
and Canada and applauding its powerful affirmation of the vitality of
Francophone voices in the world.
The Governor General witnessed their colourful performance during her
official visit to the Republic of Haiti in 2006. Visibly touched, she
conveyed to TOHU and Luc Plamondon her wish to see young Canadian and
Haitian artists share their work and commitment to building a better
world. In this way, this performance follows on the heels of a TOHU-
led exchange program in Jacmel, Haiti, that saw young artists from
Montréal, Calgary, Toronto and Yellowknife collaborate with young
Haitians on an arts-based community-building program.
The Governor General will speak immediately prior to the performance,
which begins at 8:00 p.m. TOHU is located at 2345 East Jarry Street
(corner of Iberville) in Montréal. For more information, visit
