China: a real test for the Three-gorge Dam

With 5 trillion gallons of water ....

Behind the longest dam in the world, China's TGD was design-
ed to withstand Richter scale 7.0 earthquakes. With that 7.8
one that just hit SiChuan, China, the world's hydrologists,
structural and civil engineers, will be preoccupied for many
months, if not years.

Trying to assess damages ....

On 6 May nearly 80,000 m^3 of water that once filled the Guanyin pond
of Baiguo township of Enshi City, Hubei province sank underground with
a rumbling sound.
