Asteroid Olympiada2 as afloat in Bootes, reenters Virgo on August 8th
2008. Pluto was in Coma Berenices3 in the early seventies, then
returned into Virgo and had a last eccentricity in Bootes in the early
eighties. Musically speaking what was Pink Floyd around year 1969
became New Wave eurythmics in the late seventies and early eighties.
The revival of the eighties may come as echo of a lag that Chinese
youth enjoy and boom into our ears as a reminder.

Asteroid China4 will be in Gemini at the time. Olympia will be in
Serpens5. Serpens Cauda is the ascendant of the U.S.A., which surely
gives an edge to the Olympic efforts of the States.

HUA HIN, Thailand - There's a tongue-in-cheek rule of headline writing
on the Asia Times Online newsdesk that if an article is deathly dull,
an editor shouldn't try to sex it up by writing a headline that's more
interesting than the article, thereby misleading the reader. [1]

BOOK REVIEW
One mainland, two systems
Rural Democracy in China by Baogang He
Reviewed by Sreeram Chaulia

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China/JB02Ad01.html

Since the formal promulgation of the Organic Law of Village Committees
in 1987, about 800 million rural Chinese have experienced
semi-competitive elections. Due to the domination of communist party
cadres over representative assemblies, skepticism about village
elections is justified. Yet, the experiment of participatory
institutions within the Chinese authoritarian state tests cynics who
insist that the two cannot coexist.

Using extensive data gathered in 12 years of field research, political
scientist Baogang He argues in a new book that progress has been made
in China's grassroots governance and power structures. In the same
breath, he cautions against exaltation of village democracy's
benefits, since it is "an instrumental mechanism for the continuation
of Chinese resilient authoritarianism". (p7)

Ancient tactics for modern battles
The 36 Secret Strategies of the Martial Arts by Hiroshi Moriya with
translation and foreword by William Scott Wilson

When groups of protesters tire out Chinese officials with relentless
payment demands after state-sponsored heists of their property, savvy
authorities often settle disputes without a stroke of a baton or even
a sentence in a labor or re-education camp. They research each protest
leader looking for exploitable weaknesses. Some agitators shut up if
they get paid. Others go away if faced with a minor threat against a
relative. Eventually the local government weakens the whole movement
by indulging the weaknesses of enough potential threats.

  Amerian War Crimes (query)

Author: stephen_scapegoat
Date: May 10, 2008 19:29

I'm looking for a book that lists all the war crimes committed by the
USA (covert or overt).

For instance for Vietnam, I would like to know the exact number of
civilians killed,
how many gallons of Agent Orange sprayed, how many bullets fired, and
so on.

I would like to have similiar statistics for Cuba, Grenada, Iraq, and
so on, so
as to draw certain comparisons that I might find of interest.

Does anyone know of such a book?

Thanks in advance.

Stephen
