  MY MISERABLE STORY ( 5/13 /2008)

Author: chuandetu
Date: May 13, 2008 13:37

I am a naturalized US citizen. I am from Shanghai, China. I
received my Ph.D. degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-
Madison
in
December 2000. I have no criminal record. The legal document
indicates
that I have never been a suspect of any crime. But s since November
1995, my basic human rights have
been seriously abused by police officers of the Madison Police
Department (hereafter MPD), individual police officers in the State
of
Maryland, the Secret Service Agents in Washington DC and individual
New York police officers when I have lived in Madison, Wisconsin,
Maryland, Washington DC and New York City, respectively. I have been
living in New York City since March 2001. In addition, I assume that
the
police officers also have had many civilians involved in the alleged
crimes...

Belief in God 'childish,' Jews not chosen people: Einstein letter
Tue May 13, 9:02 AM ET

LONDON (AFP) - Albert Einstein described belief in God as "childish
superstition" and said Jews were not the chosen people, in a letter to
be sold in London this week, an auctioneer said Tuesday.

The father of relativity, whose previously known views on religion
have been more ambivalent and fuelled much discussion, made the
comments in response to a philosopher in 1954.

As a Jew himself, Einstein said he had a great affinity with Jewish
people but said they "have no different quality for me than all other
people".

"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product
of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still
primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.

"No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this," he
wrote in the letter written on January 3, 1954 to the philosopher Eric
Gutkind, cited by The Guardian newspaper.

MORE ZOMI (CHIN) PEOPLE VOTED "NO" AMIDST THREATS AND INTIMIDATION

Ottawa, Canada: Amidst widespread coercion and intimidation by military
authorities, early poll results obtained by Chin Human Rights Organization
from seven polling stations in two townships in Chin State indicates that
more than 80 per cent of Chin people voted against the military-backed
constitution. This is despite the fact that many votes were thrown off as
ineligible or because they were marked "inappropriately."

  china's building structure during quakes

Author: zins

80%% of wian chuan building collapsed in sichuan province.

it is a sad loss of lives but could the chinese engineer's have
prevented this.perhap the construction companies reduce steelwork
structure

chinese local buildings built within the last 30 can be a death trap
from fire and quakes.there is a high probability that steel structure
have been compromised in order to cut cost. This practice is common
in asia. in the earth quake zones the buildings are deadly. it would
be wise for china to map out all records of earthquake zones in china
and learn to build design structure like japanese cities where high
risk of quakes occur.

china's history of quakes seem to be easily forgotten. the worst
quake in china was 1913 northern sichuan with 240,000 deaths

Myanmar's generals are ruled by paranoia

To the outside world, the reaction of Myanmar's military regime to last
week's devastating cyclone seems not just obscene, but inexplicable. Instead
of rushing to help its desperate people, the regime of General Than Shwe all
but shut off the country from foreign assistance while pushing ahead with a
referendum on a new constitution. But to those who know the regime, its
reaction is perfectly in character.

Myanmar's government is among the most xenophobic in the world, deeply
distrustful of outsiders and all they represent.

So the idea of letting foreign-aid workers and even foreign soldiers into
the country, if only to deliver aid, fills its leaders with dread.
