Were Muhammad's Wars in Self Defense?
By Ali Sina
Dear Ali
I was debating with one of my religious relatives and when I showed
her this verse (9:5) she accused us (you and I) of misinterpretation.
According to her we are reading this verse in the wrong context. Her
interpretation of this verse is that Muslims are asked to fight back
in self defense only and we should read verses 9:04 - 9:06 in order to
get the correct meaning. She looks at it from Yusuf Ali's tafsir which
states fight only if the pagans make war against you.
Regards
Gus
Dear Gus,
Sura 9 consists of two main discourses:

The monk said that they formally applied to for the land for use as
Buddhist land before the senior monk died. When he was alive, he
applied for the land but the issue is still to be resolved.
"We applied last November and were told by the higher ups in the
Religious Affairs Department not to pay bribes at the state level but
given the delay in the arrival of the proposal we gave money to the
vice chairman of the Religious Affairs Department to have the proposal
passed," said the monk.

Security forces, under the direction of the Burmese army's Southeast

festival is one of the biggest mass donations to monks from the area,

NEW YORK (Reuters) -

The world’s problems weighed on the summit, South African Archbishop

The Irrawaddy Hopes to Defeat the Hackers Soon
By SAW YAN NAING
Friday, September 19, 2008
The online news service of The Irrawaddy remained paralyzed by a cyber
attack on Friday, although technicians expressed optimism that it would be
back in operation by Monday.
Three other Burmese exile news operations that also fell victim to the
attack restored their services on Friday, leading to hope that The Irrawaddy
Web site would also soon be again accessible.
The attack knocked out The Irrawaddy service on Tuesday and also struck the
Oslo-based Democratic Voice of Burma and the New Era Journal, based in
Bangkok. All were intermittently put out of action.
The three opposition news services, operated by Burmese exiles, were hit by
a "distributed denial-of-service", or DDoS.
A DDoS attack creates a "traffic jam" at the entry to a Web site as masses
of fake, robot "visitors" try to access it.
