India second largest investor in UK

LONDON: Making a quantum jump, India has emerged this year as the
second largest investor in the UK, next only to the US.

This was stated by India's Acting High Commissioner Asoke Mukherji at
a reception organised to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Friends
Circle International organisation at Hilton Waldorf.

He said hardly three years ago India was the sixth investor in the UK.
"The increase and intensity of economic activity reflected the buoyant
Indian economy."

Mukherji thanked the 1.5 million NRI community in Britain for its role
in bringing the two countries together.

He said on an average half a million people from Britain visited India
every year and an equal number of Indians travelled to the UK.

Lord Swraj Paul, founder member of the Friends Circle International,
who has just returned after a fortnight long visit to India, said
"India has changed a lot in the last five years."
